Dr. Ikramuddin Bowl Prep... Help?
HI!
So I had a nightmare today about the bowel prepping...lol. I dreamed that I took the mag citrate 6 hours too late, so they wanted to cancel my surgery....and then I was in the hospital 2 days early and I couldn't find a place to go poo....*rolls eyes at stupid pre-op nightmares!*
anyway.... What did you have to do for the bowel prep? I got instructions to down a bottle of mag citrate like 2 days prior to surgery and to drink/eat clear fluids.
Is that all I have to do? Do any of you vets have any suggestions or advice? Where do I find mag citrate in liquid form?
Thank you :)
P.S. Are we going to have any closer-to-central-MN- support coffee meetings? I wanna meet people! :)

I got my bottle of "ass reaper" at Walgreens I think. Any drug store should carry it. Ask the pharmacy if you don't see it by the poopie medicines. Make sure it's cold when you drink it, it goes down easier. Pop it in the fridge for a few hours before the big moment.
Good Luck!

Hi Leigh,
I live in Big Lake and would love to meet you. I also had Dr. Ikrammudin. The bowel prep was easy. You can get the Mag Citrate at Walmart. Just follow the directions exactly like they say in the instructions. Then drink lots of clear liquids for the next two days. Then you will be cleared out and this reduces the risk of infection from bowel contents during the surgery. You will be fine. Dr. Ik is excellent. Have you been to the support group on the first wed of the month at Fairview University Riverside? Great support group. I will not be there next month, cuz on vacation then. PM me and I can give you my phone number and we could connect.
Good luck with your surgery. BTW, pre op nightmares are nothing compared to the dreams of food when you are on liquids after the surgery. LOL
Blessings,
Carol

Dr. I is great and the bowel prep isn't bad, just stay close to the bathroom. Make sure you get the Lemon-Lime flavored. The other is horrible. My surgery with Dr. I was on a Tuesday. Started the bowel prep on Sunday Morning.
I had complications after sx and ended up in the hospital for 10 days. Dr. I had to go back in day 2 post-op at 11:00 at night, he was leaving for vacation the next day. He even called from his vacation to check up on me everyday I was in the hospital.
