8 yearWLS anniversary
Hi everybody
Hope everyone if having an awesome day!!!
I haven't posted on here for a while, but thought I would drop in to give an update on me.
For those "oldies" I've know for a while, HI..... and to the new people on the board...Welcome to your new life....Hang on for the ride of your life!!
So, today is my 8 year anniversary of my gastric bypass. I had my surgery with Dr. Rupp from St. Paul Surgeons. My daughter Jennifer had the surgery as well 11/5/2002 and my other daughter Linnea 8/2005. I am so proud of both my daughters. They have done amazing.
As I reflect on how my life has changed in the last 8 years.....wow.... This is still the best decision I have ever made. I have lost 140 pounds. I lost 150 at my lowest, but still maintain a 140 lb loss.
The biggest lesson I have learned, and want to pass on, is to know that this surgery is amazing and still works even after 8 years. I went through a traumatic change in my list 4 years ago.... after Ken was laid off, we had to move, so had to leave my family and friends. I went through a major major depression and gained 40 pounds. After getting through this depression, I knew that I had to KICK myself in the butt and say, hey, let's get this under control. I have since lost all 40 pounds of the weight I gained back. It is so WONDERFUL that this surgery still works and if we really follow the rules, even if we do a backslide, it will still work.
I am still having struggles, as we all do, but know that I can keep everything in check and still stay HEALTHY and HAPPY because of the benefits of this surgery.
So, just my words of widsom, is to stay focused on the WHOLE picture and remember that this is a LIFELONG journey and the results can be so amazing. I am so glad that I am healthy now since losing and keeping off my 140 pounds.
Here's to continued success for us ALL!!!!
Have a wonderful day!!!!
Peggy

Yours is a great story, thank you for sharing. One of my fears (and I think it is common to a lot of us) is the fear of backsliding and gaining weight back. In the past, I'd be successful on a diet for awhile, then gain it all back plus some. It's so good to hear that, even though it's possible to have a rough patch in the future, our tool will still work to help us get back on track.
Great job! And welcome back!

Always great to hear from the vets and Peggy, Happy Surgiversary to you! I personally cannot believe it's been 8 years because to tell you the truth, I STILL have your 5 yr. post bookmarked on here!!! It was such great info when I was hoping for surgery.
Glad to hear you & your daughters are doing well. I sure hope you'll post an updated picture of the three of you one day soon!
