Has anyone had the Laparoscopic Roux-En-Y at the U of M Hospital by Dr. Sayeed Ikramuddin?  I have heard nothing but good things about him.  I am nervous about the surgery which is already scheduled, October 26th, 2010.  I just wanted some extra reassurance if anyone has had any experiences with him.  Thank you!  Kristin

I did NOT have surgery with Dr. I, however, I know he has the highest credentials and a great reputation.

It is Really normal to have pre-surgery gitters.

Re: your blog--go to this website www.unjury.com  It is a protein drink that helps keep you full.  You should eat/drink protein before ANY carbs anyway.  This unjury is what the bariatric surgeons recommend anyway.  I think it's the best!  It doesn't taste bad at all--tastes like chocolate milk!  You will get there!  I keep cheating all the time too!  It's HARD!  I just know that once I have the surgery I won't have a choice...esp. at first!  You just have to keep plugging away!  Just eat protein first!  Just remember that is key!

Dr. I is a busy, busy guy. His secretary is great. The bariatric clinic is fine - laid back is probably a good word for the front office staff. Dr. I operates at three facilities, which location is your surgery at?

My surgeon mentored Dr. I on the DS, so I am familiar with Dr. I since they practice out of the same clinic. And in fact, Dr. I just performed a revision to the DS on one of my dearest friends yesterday, and she is recovering nicely today. He's skilled that's for certain. He's also what I would say a pioneer - writes many medical journal articles and goes to bat for the obese community all the time.

 Best wishes.

I am having the surgery at the U of M.  I am having the RNY.  I have heard so many good things about Dr. I that this is very reassuring.  The only thing that has bothered me is that the staff at the U of M seem quite unorganized.  But not Dr. I or his PA.  I have been pleased with them.  Since I know Dr. I is quite a good surgeon I am not so worried about the disorganization of the staff that probably only make less than 20 dollars an hour.  It's the qualifications of the surgeon that matter to me more!  Thank you so much!

Less than $20, yeah, I'm pretty sure it's less than that. And, just remember, it is a teaching hospital. I did have a chance to meet Bridgette today and it does sound like they are making improvements, so that is good news!
