Need to find a cure for migraines
I don't mean to whine, but I'm just wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to handle migraines.
The headache started on Monday with seeing dots and light sensitivity. After taking liquid Tylenol all day to no relief, I took my injectible Imitrex and a dose of liquid oxycodone that night. I went and slept it off - falling asleep from around 7:30pm until 6am the next morning.
Tuesday I woke up with a mild headache, but manageable with a couple of doses of Tylenol during the workday. It was still there that night, so I took a half dose of oxycodone and went to bed.
This morning I woke up with my head pounding in the left temple. After a couple of hours at work the fluorescent light directly over my head was killing me. The lights were starting to make me nauseous, so I took a zofran to help. There was no place to work to get away from the lights, so my manager sent me home to work from there. I have taken my Imitrex and my oxycodone, and I am sitting in my living room with every blind closed and light off.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what might help. The last time I had a migraine this bad, it lasted for 8 days.
if it doesn't suck enough that I still have my stomach/ulcer pain, I'm dealing with this now too.
Sorry to complain, I'm just desperate for relief. Thanks for listening to my rant.

I also get migraines quite often (never 8 days) holy cow!!!! I was told by my aunt to start an aspirin regimen. Her husband started that about a year ago and has not had a migraine since...I have not started yet but I might. I also take Imitrex but not oxycodone and usually that will do it, sometimes I have to take 2 and then I am out for the night!
I hope it gets better for you!

Migraines are tricky. I really must say that I think mine have been picking up in frequency again since my surgery. I'm sure it's due to the increase in hormones due to the rapid weight loss & the changes in my body, but it still doesn't make the sometimes weekly & daily migraines any less bareable. I've been suffering through a daily migraine right now that's lasted for over a week (I'm heading in to see my doc tomorrow morning). It might be time for you to see a neurologoist & see what next step they want you to do (besides taking the Imitrex. While Imitrex is a great migraine med you might need to try something else if they keep happening (such as a daily preventative med or something). I am on a daily preventative med, but that isn't working anymore (it used to). There are many different daily preventative meds you can take, so that may be an option for you. Or maybe a different med besides Imitrex can be prescribed for you for when you get the migraine. Checking in with a neurologist may be good (if you haven't already) or going back to the one you may have already seen for a follow-up to see what the next step should be would be good.
I hope you're able to find some relief soon! I definitely know how miserable they can make you (try an ice pack on your head where the pain is & don't lay on your head where it hurts, sometimes that can help). Give me a call if I can be of any help or if you have any questions...I'm sure I've tried just about anything & everything when it comes to migraines since I've had them for almost 20 years now.

When I have one that bad I go into the Doctor and he gives me a shot, I don't know what it is, but it works fast.....
Otherwise at home I lay in a dark room with a cold wash cloth on my forehead and eyes.....
Bummer, good luck at getting rid of it.....Hugs, Kelly

I have suffered from Migraines for years. I had to finally break down a couple months ago and went to the Dr about them. Only reason I did because I plan on having RNY and I was taking Ibuprofen for Migraines Daily and I knew I couldnt take that after the Surgery. This is what worked for me. The Dr Prescribed me Amitriptyline that I take every night before bedtime. They do work. I forgot to take it one night and boy did I have a migraine the next day when I got up. So yes they work. For me anyway
Once you have an "established" migraine Imitrix doesn't always work. I've had migraines all my life too. I've finally been able to gain some control over migraines the past couple of years by taking a daily preventitive med called Topamax.
For now to get control of this one you can go to urgent care and ask for a shot of Toradol (sp). Toradol is a strong anti-inflammatory drug and you wouldn't be able to take it orally because of your WLS. It's not a narcotic. They sometimes will give you a shot of something else in addition for pain. Obviously the doctor will know best.
