Newbie Question

I am set to attend the information meeting next week and have already been to my PCP and had bloodwork and history done. So my question is how long does the process take? I know that some of this depends on your insurance and how long it takes to meet some requirements, but just wondering what some others have experienced. I am a bit of an impatient person, but however long it takes I am comitted to making this happen (as long as I get approved anyway )

Thanks!

It really depends on each individual person and how much work that needs to be done before the insurance approves them for the surgery.  For example, I started my process in November of 2007 and had surgery October 20, 2009; a friend of mine started her process in June of 2009 and had her surgery on October 22, 2009.

Granted we did have different insurances (I had BCBS and she had/has HP) and different doctors so the processes were extremely different.

My RNY took 2 1/2 years from informational meeting to day of surgery. It was exceptionally long, and mostly my fault for not staying on top of things, such as making sure that reports were sent when they said they would be, and having all kinds of last min. heart tests which turned out to be nothing. Still all in all, I would do it all again, but maybe a little faster

Thank you for your replies. I am such a planner I like KNOWING lol, I have to remind myself that taking the second step only comes after the first and you have to start somewhere. Didnt get this way overnight and I wont be able to change it overnight either.

I went to my info session in mid-December 2006, mailed in my packet on Jan. 17, 2007, and all the stars must have aligned for me because I had my surgery just over 3 months later.

Some breeze through like I did, some fight like hell.  But I'd bet every person here would tell you it's worth whatever it takes!!!

Good luck to you!

I went to my first informational session on October 21, 2009 at Abbott and had surgery on December 10th, 2009!  Looking back I realize that was super fast but at the time it seemed like it took forever!  I have Medica and had just been diagnosed with high blood pressure so the 6 months was waived.  Good Luck!

It depends on you and your insurance and how well your employer is willing to work with you.  I started the process 3 months ago, and now my surgery is scheduled October 26th.  So a total of 4 months is has taken me.  Good Luck!  Kristin
