U of M Fairview day of surgery and other querstions DS surgery
When does Ikramuddin do surgery? I know the other surgeon Dr B does on Tuesdays.
How did you decide between the two surgeons? seems like lap DS would be less complicated, less recovery time. But the other dr is who trained Dr I, right? I am flip flopping.
I DO like Dr I's receptionist tons better. ;) So sweet!
I have an appt with Dr B for the seminar on Sept 29th.
I am trying to learn as much as I can before then. Like what type of complications will I need to look for after surgery? I know abdominal pain but is there another indicator of surgery complications after the DS?
My stomach is turning over today after staying up late reading through the memorial page here. :(
Thanks!

Did you notice that on the memorial page, a lot of the people die from cancer or other non related issue? I did not see a lot of DSers on there but there seemed to be a lot of people who died of cancer after they had surgery. That thought made me feel a little bit better about it. Plus a very small percentage of people die from WLS. Dr I's numbers are even lower than the national average. We're all in good hands!

I could be wrong but I think Dr. I is a leading WLS in our area. He's also in demand for lectures around the world. I believe he's one of a handful of surgeons who developed and perfected lap technology and brought it to our area. I'm guessing here but I think Dr. I probably taught it to others, not the other way around. Could be wrong - I often am!

Dr. Buchwald is a pioneer of the DS surgery!
He trained Dr. I as well as many other doctors.
People travel many states to have him be their surgeon.
I chose Dr. B for those reasons...he know what he is doing. He does only do open but I wanted open ...I wanted him to see everything and actually use his hands.
I had another surgery done lap and my recovery from my open DS was WAY easier than that surgery!

That is the reason I think I will stick with him. I feel that I lucked up to have called and they placed me at Dr B's seminar! They asked who I preferred and at the time I knew none of them so I had no preference. It is the open vs lap! Usually I have always heard it is best lap! I am not scared of open surgery, I have had that a few times before and done well.
