WLS and the State Fair!
Big topic right now, the state fair. And all the EATING that takes place there!
Will you go? Will you eat? How will you deal with all the decadent, evil goodies there?
I honestly never went there to eat. I HAVE to have cheese curds, and once I discovered the pork chops, well, I've always gotten one of those. But I avoided playing into the stereotype of being the obese woman, I was always too afraid to be that fat woman who was constantly stuffing something in her face.
Today, I went with my family, and met up with couple of dear WLS friends. Here's what I had:
Fried pickle chips (1 order split 4 ways)
a snow cone
cheese curds (1 order split 3 ways)
a bite of a caramel apple "fudge puppie"
a bite of a FUDGE "fudge puppie"
1/2 a cheddar beef stick
a bite of an alligator brat
alligator nuggets (1 order split 4 ways)
2 Sweet Martha's cookies
a beer
and LOTS of water (brought my crystal light raspberry lemonade!)
I never did get my pork chop - and this looks like a long list, but really? I didn't eat much, I just had a taste of a lot of different things - and it was AWESOME! All that walking, all the sampling - I was very happy!
What about YOU??

It's funny you should post this Darla...I'm getting ready for my FIRST trip to the State Fair ever this morning! As everyone knows, I'm an old-timer post op, but I plan on doing just about everything you did. I'm bringing along a friend to help me "taste" my favorites. It's good she's a close friend that doesn't mind sharing and giving me a bite or two. I'm planning on cheese curds for sure. I'll probably grab some cotton candy to go - which I'll be careful with at home...(that could be dumping territory) Since I'm a rookie State Fair goer...I'll have lots to see and keep me occupied, but I do admit I'm going to be tasting and eating today...but within the limits of my innards.
Wish me luck! (man, that pork chop sounds good...)

Oh Darla, I feel so dirty.....
Ha! I had a great time at the Fair! Got lots of goodies thanks to my friend who shared with me. I did have a few things on my own...keep in mind I was there awhile and am farther out than most here. The curds were great, couldn't finish an order so I snuck about a third of mine into her dish. We shared an elephant ear, I had my own corn and my own pronto pup. I brought a monster bag of cotton candy home with me. My husband likes it too, and that will last a long time.
I do know that I would have never been able to do the Fair when I was 300+ lbs because of the HEAT and all the walking. I was hot...but no more hot than everyone else. I did see quite a few candidates for WLS there, and felt sorry for them.
I'm hooked! I'm going back next year!

DEFINITELY easier to walk all day post-WLS! But I have a crap knee from a car accident 14 years ago, so I was still hurtin' pretty good when I wrote this thread last night. I was FINE as long as I was walking, so I really didn't sit much (except to listen to a few songs by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band!).
Once we got on the shuttle bus to go back to our car (we were at the fair for about 10 hours), THEN the pain hit. MAMMA!!!

I'm going to the fair this Friday. I'm not too nervous. I never ate too much there in the past. I guess the price of everything usually discourages me from buying too much. Also, we have 6 kids and never bought too much because it would cost too much. I'll scout out the meat stands and probably have tastes of things the rest of my family has. Wish me luck.
Hey Darla!! Looks like you did a good job minus the alligator LOL!!!
My husband and I have always shared food at the fair due to the expense HOLY COW the price of things is crazy!! I don't ever seem to eat a lot.
I was there on Friday only for the Boyz II Men concert and had a YUMMY Corn Dog and that was pretty much it. We will go again I'm sure and love the Turkey Legs I like cheese curds too but can't eat too many...
