It's hard to stay away from food at work. I work at an ESL school in South Korea and the kids constantly have birthday parties and parents bring in delicious cookies and cakes and EVERYTHING bad. Oooooooooh it's so hard to stay away.... mmm....

I am starring at a chocolate cake with raspberries on top as we speak....

What do you do to say no?

Some days I can say no but other days I am too weak!!

Remember we do have to live the real world, and the real world eats at work.  And as you have proven, it's not just in the US!  I just returned from a visit to our Netherlands office, and yes, there too we had treats one day.  (if the temperature gets above a certain level, they bring ice cream treats around to each office!)

What I do is first assess if I really dig the item.  If I don't, I just politely say I'll pass, or I'll have some later.  I just ate, I'm really full...blah blah.  If I like it, I'll have a small piece or one cookie and enjoy it.  No guilt.  If you choose to eat it, enjoy it.  If it's going to make you feel guilty...pass on it.  I don't want to hear anyone go on and on about how "I shouldn't eat this" as they are chomping it down.

I'm done with guilt associated with food.  Unless you waste it.  There are much more worthy things in this world to feel guilty about than that cookie or piece of cake you just ate.

Sometimes treats can be hard to resist but since surgery I have become lactose intolerant and I use that as my mental state of mind warning to myself.  What if it has a milk product in it?  So I can usually decline without much 'feeling'.  If we are having a fun/food day at work I will bring something that I know I can have that won't give me problems!  By the way Elana, you look wonderful so you must be 'passing' on most of those treats!!  Donna

you still have to live, E.  A treat now and then won't sabotage all the incredible work you've done!  Just don't go overboard.  Carbs are evil, and once you have some, you crave more!

Elena....you are human....we all have things we shouldn't...you and the word weak don't belong in the same sentence. You are the strongest people I know!!
