Question for Fairview Southdale post-ops
I am going to be having surgery at Fairview Southdale on September 16th. Today I was talking with my parents who live in Saint Cloud. My mom really wants to stay with me at the hospital the first night after surgery. She doesn't like the idea of being that far away, and she wants to be there first thing in the morning when the surgeon does rounds, be available if I need a cold washcloth on my head, and so on.
My question is, will my mom be able to stay the night in the room with me? She's not looking for a cot, but just a chair so she can be by my side. I will ask this during my pre-op class, but that's not until Sept 9th. Thanks!

Wow, you stayed three days???? I went home the next day after surgery. I wasn't at Fairview, but I didn't think protocol was that different. Interesting...
I would have been bored Days 2 and 3, too. My DD and I went to get a pedicure the day after I got home. Might as well pamper ourselves, tho that was about all I could handle that day.

Thanks everyone! I have heard such great things about this place. Not always great things about Fairview Southdale Hospital as a whole, but great things about PCU 33 (our unit), which matters most to me. I was really back and forth for a while with my nerves, but after meeting with Dr Laguna last month, I am so ready to get on this ride! One month from today!!!
I had my surgery done at Fairview & my hubby stayed with me during my whole hospital stay (both nights). He slept one night on the reclining chair & one night on the cot. Each floor has at least one cot (maybe more) so as soon as you get to your floor ask your nurse if the cot is available since it's a much more comfortable sleep for your mom than the chair (plus I actually slept in the chair one of the nights since it was easier to get in & out of for bathroom breaks). So, as long as you have a private room, which everyone I know that has had surgery at Fairview Southdale usually ends up having, you'll have no problem with your mom spending the whole time with you in the hospital.
Good luck with your upcoming surgery!!!
