Breakfast of Champions

Peeps - what do you typically eat for breakfast? I need some inspiration to change it up.

My post WLS standards (i.e. Fage yogurt, sausage, bacon, left over grilled meat from the previous night's dinner, taco meat, eggs which I have a love/hate relationship with, etc.) have just become very blah to me and I have been switching it up by eating a piece of PB toast or a small dish of Raisin Bran, but I know my body just isn't happy with the lack of protein at breakfast. So, what do you eat?

I know some of you are protein shake lovers and that's awesome, but I am not looking for shake suggestions here. I've got my two faves but they don't always sit well with me right away in the morning.

So...what do you enjoy for breakfast?

I have a Luna protein bar every morning.  I can't handle the shakes, they don't sit well with me.  I normally go for the berry almond, or toasted almond and cranberry.  It has 9 grams of protein, 180 calories, and holds me over until I do my soy milk around 10:30am.

My clinic is fine with my choice because it sits well, and it's a decent amount of protein, and it tastes great!!  They have so many flavors that there's always one you can find that you like.  I also like that they travel well, and I can eat it on my way to work, making it last my whole commute.

Just recently discovered Kashi Go Lean cereal, which has 13 gms of protein in a 1 cup serving.  It makes a good change from my standard of soft boiled eggs or turkey.  I sometimes do whole grain toast with peanut butter, or cheese.

I am not a good breakfast eater so I also LOVE the Luna Protein Bars but my fave is the Lemon Bar.  I eat mine at work when I first get there and it holds me til lunch time.  When I am at home I try to get in a couple of boiled eggs or a boiled egg with pb toast (1/2 slice).  There is not one protein shake that I like so I glad I found the Luna Bars.  You can get them at Walmart.  By the way Amy...you are lookin great!!!  Donna

Luna bars...I'll have to give them another try. At first, I didn't like the carb count on them, but I can handle those now, so I will try them again. I think I remembering liking a blueberry one they had, but I'll give the lemon a try, too, since a few of you like it!

I do love Kashi cereals actually but just don't make a habit of buying them. Good reminder.

Cottage cheese is a good suggestion, Kelly, thanks. I know I can't always stomach it right away in the morning, but even if I took 1 or 2 tsp. bites of it until my stomach wasn't so grouchy perhaps.

As for turkey stuff...I usually do the full fat version because as a DS'er, we need to add fat to every meal, but I like the idea of a BLT wrap using the lettuce. I always order Jimmy John's on lettuce vs. their bread, so this is a good reminder I can do that in the morning at home!

See? Sometimes, ya just need a little reminder of good food options.

Thanks all!

I either do cheese stick rolled with ham, pepper jack cheese, canadian bacon, and crackers, or cottage cheese w strawberries and rolled ham.

I usually have yogurt during the week - I like TJ's greek yogurt (way less expensive than Fage!). I buy a tub of fat free and a 2% and mix them. I add my own raspberries and a bit of Splenda to sweeten it up, then when I eat it I dress it up with other stuff for texture - sunflower seeds, flax seed, granola (have a FABULOUS recipe for homemade granola from nurse Barb!!), sometimes I add pomegranate for a sweet little explosion in my mouth!

I also eat cottage cheese - awesome protein! Sometimes scrambled eggs (1 or 2) with bacon bits and cheese, topped with salsa.

It does get boring, but I let myself be okay with that - 'cuz it's just fuel.

One of our Saturday coffe persons put me onto this recipie Protein pancakes!! MMM they are really good and a real nice change of pace. I found them VERY filling as I am only 5.5 months out and do not eat bread.

Here is a video  http://cutthefatpodcast.com/702/cut-the-fat-blog/high-protei n-pancake-recipe-video

and notice it is from a blog  Cut the fat.

           I used 1/2c cottage cheese
           1 scoop of protein powder
            1/4c   ruff cut oatmeal
            1 egg

Mix in blender till smooth, if it isn't very close to the consistency of regular batter add a tbs of water.

I made two pancakes which really is 3 pancakes/meals for me, some people use peanut butter on them , I tries it once with PB and the other with SF Syrup. VERY tasty and full of protein.

Hi Amy....I am not a breakfast lover either....most times I just have  a Boost High Protein Glucose Control Drink or otherwise a Pure Protein Bar....20 grams of protein and only 2 grams of sugar however, 17 grams of carbs. They both really satisfy me and keep me going until lunch.

You look so awesome...I am so proud of you!!

Love ya...hugs....connie d
