Need questions for my surgeon!
I have my first meeting with my surgeon in two weeks (RNY) and I feel that I want to come prepared with some good questions. I have only a handful and would like some help with a few more.
I guess the more I learn and research this stuff the more I understand how little I know. If I only knew the right questions I would get the right answers.
I know I'm 6-7 months out but I don't care - My journey has already started

1st- What's your name? It's nice to put a 1st name with a post....:)
I'm sure they will give it to you, But ask for their guidelines or program outline, What you need to know before and after RNY......There rules......
Every Doctor is different, it's amazing.....For me, my doctor had me eating up to 1/4 c. till 6 months, my friend that had it done by a different Doctor, he had her eating 1/2 cup till 6 months.....So you might want to ask how much you will be eating at the different 3,6,9 months, 1 year out stages....
It's really an individual thing, so really whatever questions you have for you.....That's all I can really think about for a generalization....

You are definitely in the game!
Common first questions would be:
Open or laparoscopic? (You may think you'll be lap, but you could end up open if you have had previous abdominal surgeries, have a certain mid-section circumference that is too large for a lap procedure, etc.)
*what Kelly said about what you'll be eating post op and how much at how far out
Will I have any drainage tubes (i.e. NG tube, etc.)?
What are my pre-surgery requirements (i.e. liquid diet, how much weight has to be lost before surgery, etc.)?
Some surgeons have you do a bowel prep. Is this required by your surgeon?
Some surgeons have you shower twice before surgery with a special soap that is available at a pharmacy or sometimes OTC depending on where you shop at. Is this required by your surgeon? (It is a good thing! Helps to reduce the risk of infection from surgery.)
Hmmmmm...I think that's about all I can think of right now.
What kinds of questions are on your list? Any even near these? They can be so personal.

His office is GREAT!!! You will have plenty of chances during the process to ask as many questions as you want to ask. Go to their web site, they have a Yahoo! chat room for his patients. Also, if you are close to St. Cloud attend as many support groups that you can. You can ask questions there and also talk with people. Your first meeting with the doctor you will leave there with plenty of reading material and that is when you can get really educated and prepare questions for him. If you have a question, call his office. It's not hard. You have started so don't worry yourself too much.
