Mashed Foods Help/Losing weight???
I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow and I will be going on mashed foods for about 4 weeks. I am looking for advice and help on what I can eat ? Can I eat everything as long as its mashed? Am I limited from anything. or is it as long as its mashed and I chew it good enough its OK.
I really struggled on the puree diet that I was on for 2 weeks. I don't think I ate enough.
At 1 week out I lost a total of about 15 pounds since surgery and a total of 25 since pre op diet. since then I have not lost anything. So that's for 2 weeks now. I have read before that the body goes into stall wondering why its losing so much. Is that correct and is that what I am going thru.
My exercise is still very limited since I get tired very easy still..is that normal.
Please give me some word of confidence and advice.
thanks

I'm going to be totally honest here, it's up to you whether or not you buy anything I'm selling.
I mostly relied on my teeth to do the mashing. I got a great deal of satisfaction out of chewing the daylights out of whatever it was I would eat at that stage. It seemed to work pretty well for me.
That having been said, I did try to focus on softer foods - hard boiled eggs, refried beans, tuna, cottage cheese, moist (dark meat) chicken, etc. I had trouble with any kind of ham or white meat chicken - come to think of it, I still do, unless it's REALLY moist, like a rotiserrie (sp?) chicken.
And your weight loss will stop and start many times along the way. GET OFF YOUR SCALE, it is NOT your friend right now. Just do what you're supposed to do, weigh only once a month or at your doctor's office. If you're not losing pounds, you likely ARE losing inches. You body needs periods to adjust to your weight loss, your shifting center of gravity - snugging up and re-arranging. Let it.
As for the 15 pounds down 1 week post op? You're LUCKY!!! I was 19 pounds UP at 1 week post-op! (I had to have a hernia repair at the same time as WLS, so had an extra day and night of IV fluids. Frustrating, for sure, but it all came off/out.)

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
I agree with Darla. I am about the same post-op as you, and I am already chewing the daylights out of solid food, rather than pureeing anything. I know I should be pureeing, but really? Does ANYTHING taste good pureed? (Don't tell my surgeon!)
So far, so good. I make sure to take lots of time to eat, and chew, chew, chew every teeny, tiny bite. This evening I had some friends over for a BBQ. They each had full plates of food. I ate 1/4 chicken breast, 2 pieces of new potato and 2 pieces of grilled pineapple. It took me twice as long to eat that much as they did to eat. I was stuffed, I gotta say, but it tasted soooo gooooood!!

WOW!!! so it looks like you are eating everything as long as you chew the heck out of it. I have not been doiong that at all I feel like a chicken so afraid to ruin anything.
Lat weekend we went out of town for the weekend and all I ate was scrambled eggs. haha so afraid to eat anything that was not soft enough. I did chew the daylights out of it. I guess I will start going towards more edible things so I do not get sick if this diet. (Oh I am now on mashed foods) so I gues as long as i ma**** and chew it I will be fine.
