Finally out of the hospital

So after 10 days in the hospital I finally got home last Friday. Surgery was on June 30 and I ended up with pancrititis and pneumonia post-op. Then to make things worse I now have a sterile abscess next to my stomach. The docs are still trying to decide what to do about that. I'm thinking I'm going to end up back in the hospital having it drained. Other than that things are going well. So far I have been able to eat everything I've tried with no problems. Before surgery I couldn't even think of eating anything tomato based with out getting heart burn, I ate tomato soup in the hospital with no problems. My heart burn is GONE!!!!! No matter what else happens I'm so happy with the outcome I can overcome any other problems. I gained about 25lbs. in fluid while in the hospital that is not gone along with an additional 5lbs.

I will say, though that when the pain from the abscess gets bad I do wonder if I made the right decision, but, then the pain meds kick in and I know I made the right decision. I am so looking foward to starting my new life.

Thanks everyone for the support you gave to me before surgery and for the continued support I know I will recieve.

God Bless

I've gotten acquainted with a few here who had some bumps in the beginning of their WLS journey - but none of them have had any long-lasting regrets.  It's NOT always smooth sailing, but if you follow your program and are self-aware in case of any issues, you'll come out of this a healthier, happier person!

(Isn't that IV weight gain a drag???  I gained 19 myself!)

Wow, I'm soooo sorry you had such complications.  I can only assume what it must be like coughing like that after surgery!  Yikes!  The abscess is really unfortunate to say the least, but it will heal and you will be on your way to great things!

Isn't it weird to come home weighing more than when you went in?  It took quiet a while for me to "Lose" again.  But when it came and I did the right stuff it just kept coming.

Let us know how you are progressing.  I hope you are healed up and feeling really well soon!  Hang tough!

it's good to hear that you are home.  I'm so sorry you are having a rough start to your journey but if you follow the program the way you should, you will see yourself shrinking in no time!

Well, I think that after your decision to have WLS to cure the heart burn (amongst other reasons), you certainly made the right decision since you're already reaping those benefits. Take the recovery road slowly and stay in tune with your body and be your own best advocate with your after care.

I will pray that smooth sailing is coming your way so that you can 100% enjoy that post-op life with not an ounce of heart burn and all that goes with being thinner as well.

 Best wishes.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough start, but hang in there, and the benefits will come.  I managed to get rid of all my IV weight gain and am on the road to weight loss already, so it will happen for you, too.  Good luck!
