Tomorrow is the start of my new life!
Tomorrow is it! Surgery day!
At first it seemed so long away, and now it's here! I am excited, but also nervous. I'm nervous about the surgery itself, but mostly about my commitment to the new lifestyle. I so want to make this work and not fail.
I saw my cousin's wife last weekend. She had the RnY done a few years ago. She must be close to her original weight, she has gained it all back. I feel so bad for her, and I don't want to do the same thing. I can tell she's not happy.
I've also been nervous about the "loss" of food. I know that I'm going to miss some things, but I keep trying to remind myself that the result will be a healthier me. This liquid diet has been kicking my butt, and I haven't been perfect at following it. My excuse is that I moved on Saturday, so all my food and drink were packed. I had takeout Chinese food on Friday night (no noodles or rice, and I made the meal last for three meals, once I found my microwave!), and I had one slice of pizza at lunch on Saturday. One slice and I was stuffed full, where in the past I would have eaten three, so that's a change. I think I made better choices than I would have in the past, and I still lost weight, so I'm trying not to beat myself up over it. And it sure did feel good to chew something!
Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement. I don't know that I would have the courage to do this without the Saturday coffee group and this forum. You are all so enthusiastic and helpful!!

Don't let your cousin's wife's regain discourage you, use it to bolster YOUR determination NOT to fail your tool! Because you can gain the weight back, if you're not committed and determined to honor your tool for the rest of your life. This isn't just until the weight comes off. You might even encourage her to pick her WLS habits back up - put her tool back to use! It won't be anywhere NEAR as easy for her as it will be for you, but maybe you can be the spark she needs to get back on track?
As for "I haven't been perfect at following it. My excuse is..." Forgive me, but PLEASE think long and hard about that. You recognize that you made excuses for straying from your LD, that's a GOOD thing. And forgiveness, when you eat something you shouldn't, can be a very good, healthy thing, too. But if you truly want to succeed with WLS for the long term, you will need to recognize the excuses you give yourself, and make DARN SURE you don't let it become a habit, or you could end up like your cousin's wife. Too many excuses, too much forgiveness - you just don't want to go there. Use the next 18 months to really nail down the new relationship you have with food. It's fuel, nothing else. Eat only what you need, only as much as you need. You'll be floored by how little that really is!!!
GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
Not sure what clinic your doctor is with- but my clinic asked at the hospital if I had eaten anything while on the LD- if you had any solids that meant NO surgery. The LD is meant to not only bulid your self-control but also to shrink your liver so that the surgery is easier to perform via lap. If you have been cheating at all especially so close to the procedure they may well make you reschedule. Be sure to tell the truth when they go over your history- otherwise they could have to convert to an open procedure. Much harder to recover from. Good luck- sounds like you need it.

I'm back and feeling pretty good! We haven't had internet connected at our new place yet, so I finally was able to walk down to the clubhouse at our townhouse complex and use the wi-fi there.
My surgeon said I did a really good job preparing for the surgery, and everything went well. The only issue was that my gallstones were even worse than they expected from the ultrasound, so they had to poke extra holes in my belly to crush the gallstones before removing the gallbladder. Sounds gross, and my doc said it might make recovery slower, but so far so good.
I'm hoping to make it to coffee tomorrow. Is it in Eagan or Burnsville, I've lost track?
