Ulcers

I have always struggled with ulcers before surgery, and now I think I may have an ulcer... but what does that mean for us who have had wls?  It feels the same, which I would think it would feel different.  I have a call into the nurse at my clinic, but they haven't called back yet.  Any thoughts or suggestions?  I am sick of this ache in my stomach.

PS - I don't smoke, drink alcohol or pop, I am sticking to the rules.  I walk 3 miles four times a week.  What am I doing to get an ulcer?

You're not doing anything wrong.  I got an ulcer 2 weeks after surgery because my medication (Zantac) wasn't be absorbed properly.  They put me on a solutab Prevacid (it's dissolved before it ever reaches your stomach), and it slowly healed up.

They did a scope, discovered the ulcer, changed my med, and added another med to coat the stomach to help it heal.  It took me a long time to finally heal, but now I'm doing fine.

Hopefully you will hear from your clinic soon, and they can get you in for a scope.  It was actually a relief to know that there was a cause to the horrible pain I had whenever I tried to drink or eat (mostly drink).

I hope you find relief quickly.

My nurse just called and she is going to have the doctor call me soon.  She thinks they will probably give me a prescription strength anti-acid.  I will keep you all posted.  Yuck.

Oh you poor poor thing. I've had 2 ulcers since my original surgery. At neither time did I do anything to get these ulcers. I dont' take NSAIDS, smoke, drink alcohol, or soda.

What an ulcer felt like for me was extreme nausea and pain right under my ribcage in the middle or toward the left hand side.

Be very careful with this. I recommend getting an endoscope to verify it's an actual ulcer. In the meantime, I'd start taking Prilosec ASAP. Sometimes sulcralfate can make your stomach feel better because it coats it. Ask if you can get a prescription for that also.

Again, be careful. I had to have a revision due to an ulcer that wouldn't heal. He had to cut out the ulcer and make me a new pouch.

Best of luck, let me know if you have any questions.
