OMG!!!!!!  My surgery is scheduled for tomorrow!  I am so excited and a bit nervous!!!! Have had a couple sleepless nights already.  I have faith that everything is going to be alright.  My only concern is that I do not want to be in too much pain and I DO NO and DO NOT want to go wrong with this procedure.  I posted something yesterday and I did not get many reponses (i am sure with summer everyone is more outside thatn on the computer).  I am looking for any advice on protein drinks and keeping up on the amount.  and vitmains so I don't lack them.  and maybe any food ideas for the next couple of weeks.  You guys all here have been helpful.

I took about 2 weeks off work and I hope that is enough..what do u think?

Move over people make room for the next LOSER!!!!!! keep me in your prayer and thoughts tomorrow and I will keepin touch!

I'm probably not the best person to give advice as I still struggle to get in my protein!  Just keep trying protein shakes until you find one you like.  The ones I liked before surgery won't go down now, so I'm trying them all again.

As for vitamins, I use sublingual B12 (cherry flavored), Flintstones complete (2/day), chewable calcium(Caltrate), chewable D3(Cost****hewable C  to go with my ferrous sulfate(prescription Iron).  I also take B1(deficient after surgery), Biotin.

As for pain, what can I say, there will be some.  Some people have almost no pain and are off pain meds in a day.  I had a LOT of pain, and was still on my narcotic 3 weeks later.  However, by that point part of my pain was from the ulcer, not the incisions.

I was off work for 1 week, and then worked from home for 2 weeks (computer programmer - easy to do!!)  I was still pretty slow by 3 weeks, but some people are fine in days.  Every person is different, so it's really up to you and your body!

Food ideas - i lived on sugar-free popsicles, sugar-free pudding made with soy milk, chicken broth, cream of wheat (not my favorite) and sugar-free jello.  I ate so much of that, I'm only now able to eat jello again!!

I wish you the best of luck tomorrow, and I know you will come through with flying colors.  You'll be in my thoughts, and best of luck!!

Congratulations, and good luck!  I share your worries and my surgery is only a week away, so if you find the answers, especially on protein, let me know!!

In the meantime, remember that a positive attitude goes a long way to alleviating the pain!  You'll do great!

I took three weeks off work, but mostly because I can do so and still get paid.  I'd be planning to go back sooner if I didn't.

Good Luck tomorrow!  There will be some pain, but that's what your pain meds are for...just make sure you take them when you need them.

As for protein, I agree with PP that your tastes and what you can and cannot tollerate will change after surgery.  Try them again if you are not able to do it now, however, be careful because you will really need to keep track of that sugar content.

As for Nectar (from your other post) I've heard it tastes a lot like Kool Aid, but it's higher in sugar than some protein drinks.

Congrats......Being nervous is totally normal....

I like UNJURY unflavored Protein powder or Chike Bananna or Orange. I mix them with frozen fruit, 1/2 c. milk and yogurt.....

I take Bariatric Advantage vitamins, there a little bit more expensive, but have more in them than the regular vitamins.....Whatever you do, TAKE your vitamins.....And Biotin is great to take right away also for hair loss, it's not proven, but it worked for me.....I still lost hair, but less I believe......

Water is always hard to get in right away, I had to set a timer for every 5 min. to remind me to sip.......

I had a lot of broth in the begining.....Just follow what your Doctor suggests you eat......Every plan is different.....SF popscicles helped me too, plus they count towards water intake, I think 2oz. per popscicle....

Good luck, Kelly

Best wishes tomorrow!! I'm sure you will do great

After surgery to get in protien I had alot of sugar free/not fat pudding, carnation instant breakfast (no sugar added), cream of wheat, and protein shakes! I found my protien shakes at GNC and it has 60 grams per shake!

I took about 2 1/2 weeks off and that was enough. I was certainly tired going back but it was fine!

Again best wishes!!
God Bless, Angela
