2 Years Out
Last Friday marked the second anniversary of my weight loss surgery. It was a pretty typical summer work day for me: I took my supplements, consumed almost a gallon of water, made good food choices in appropriate quantities, walked about 4 miles and biked 24 miles, all while handling my job. Most days now I feel mentally and physically healthier than I did for the better part of 2 decades prior to surgery. My weight has been relatively stable for more than a year and I have been lucky enough to avoid experiencing any complications.
I do still struggle with mood swings and other stressful things, but now I reach out for support when I need it and I try very hard to take care of myself in some way every day. I feel like I am living again, rather than just existing like I did for so long. I have rediscovered joy in small things, in nature, in the people I care about and in those who care about me. I have grown confident that I can lead a healthy, happy life from here on out with just a modicum of effort and an unyielding will to live.
Those of you who have supported me along the way have my profound gratitude. I owe you my life…my healthier, happier life.
