2 Years Out

Last Friday marked the second anniversary of my weight loss surgery.  It was a pretty typical summer work day for me:  I took my supplements, consumed almost a gallon of water, made good food choices in appropriate quantities, walked about 4 miles and biked 24 miles, all while handling my job.  Most days now I feel mentally and physically healthier than I did for the better part of 2 decades prior to surgery.  My weight has been relatively stable for more than a year and I have been lucky enough to avoid experiencing any complications.

I do still struggle with mood swings and other stressful things, but now I reach out for support when I need it and I try very hard to take care of myself in some way every day.  I feel like I am living again, rather than just existing like I did for so long.  I have rediscovered joy in small things, in nature, in the people I care about and in those who care about me.  I have grown confident that I can lead a healthy, happy life from here on out with just a modicum of effort and an unyielding will to live.

Those of you who have supported me along the way have my profound gratitude.  I owe you my life…my healthier, happier life.

You are a wonderful person and a great inspiration for all those that plan to go through the changes and growth that comes with losing a lot of weight. You are tough yet sensitive and take each day as it comes. Thank you for being a good friend and a great example for WLS! ;)

I agree with the other posters, RP.  It was about a year or so ago, I embarked on this journey and you were one of the first people who inspired me.  Your willingness to share your struggles, examine your own life, and still work at living it to the fullest are exactly what we all need to do.  You'll continue to struggle - that is part of life - but as you achieve success with and without struggle, it helps the rest of us hang on during the rocky times!   Thanks for your honesty and continual insights, RP.   And of course, many congratulations on your healthier, happier life!!!

Congrats Rick! You have done a fabulous job! I am proud of the steps you have taken to find yourself and also be an inspiration to others! This is a big deal and I know you are now living a new life and will keep it up! It amazes me that you bike 24 miles! Did you do the MS150?
