A letter from the Senator....

 Abourt 4 months ago I wrote our 2 senators about the The Dietary Supplement Safety Act (DSSA).  For those of you that are not familiar with it, and that it could limit the availability of supplements (also includes protein shakes) and vitamins, here is a previous post about it.

I was actually quite surprised to get any response back.  So actually maybe when you do write to your legislators, the things might actually be read.

Dear Jeffrey,

Thank you for contacting me about the Dietary Supplement Safety Act of 2010.  I appreciate you sharing your views on this issue.

To stay healthy, many Minnesotans take dietary supplements for extra vitamins and nutrients.  I understand that these products may provide health benefits.  It is important to me that Minnesota consumers have the information to make informed choices when buying dietary supplements, and that they have access to the products they want.  As you may know, S. 3002, the Dietary Supplement Safety Act, would require manufacturers to disclose the full list of ingredients contained in each dietary supplement, and direct the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure their safety.

       After its introduction on February 4, 2010, S. 3002 was referred to the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee where it is pending further review.  As a member of this committee, I will certainly keep your strong views on this legislation in mind should it come up for consideration.
