Vitamins/Being prepared

What are the best Chewable Complete Multi vitiamins out there.  I ran out of the ones I take and I want to be prepared and buy the chewable ones.

Does anyone take a something for protein, beside the shakes? trying to figure if I need to get biotin or just load up on the protein in a different way.

Thanks everybody but as I get closer and closer to the day I have been waiting for I am getting more and more nervous and want to be prepared in every way possible.  So any advice is good.  I don't want to be home and run out of something and end up eating something I should not be having and getting sick.

I took 3 weeks off work, do you think that is enought time?  What do you take back with you to work for lunch and snacks?

They may seem like silly questions but I am trying to prepare myself.

Being nervous is totally normal.......

As far as how much time you need off depends on if it's laporscopic or open RNY.....I would think 2 weeks for Laporscopic would be sufficient. And up to 6 weeks if open......Not real sure, as I don't work....

I now take the chewable Bariatric Advantage vits. There a little expensive but have way more in them than Flinstones do, etc......

Biotin is really just for hair loss, nothing else......

As far as protein, you should get it in your protein shakes, Unjury has 20g. per scoop, so 3 shakes a day would be the right amount (60g.), plus anything else you have.....

I have bought the Protein Whey bullets from GNC, they are 3 oz. of thick juice per say.....And have about 25g. per 3 oz. I did do those as I had problems drinking a whole shake.....

Ask your nurse also, they have many helpful suggestions ......

No question is silly, we've all been there.....And all have asked these same questions.....:)

Hi Moonlight, we are in the same stage, and having the same concerns!

My dr's office said the Flintstones Chewable Complete are fine, two a day.  I did an online comparison of the various options, and the Flintstones are by far the most cost-effective option, even if you have to take 3 a day.

I've been wondering about biotin, too.  I don't know where to get that specifically.  If you want to pick up stuff locally instead of online, I've found Sam's Club and Walgreens to have very good prices, especially if you shop Walgreen's sales.  You can get two for one a lot of times there--that's where I got my Calcium Citrate.

I haven't stocked up on protein yet, I'm nervous about spending a lot of money on something and finding out it doesn't agree with me or I don't like it.

I bought myself one of those Ninja blenders the other day, so I'm ready to make smoothies and protein shakes.  :-)  I also found the best Nalgene bottles the other day at Dick's Sporting Goods, so I am set there.  It sounds crazy, but with these bottles, I am finally getting all the water I should be drinking!!

Let me know if you find some good sources for stuff!!

I really like the Syntrax Nectar protein drinks.  They have quite a few flavors too.  I read on a different forum that if you call Syntrax at 1-866-333-7403 you can order a sample pack of their flavors for $9.95.   I have been able to find Nectar at The Vitamin Shoppe, but have not seen any sample packs there.

Here's what I take:

Centrum Complete Chewables, 1/day  (I can take tablets, but prefer to give my teeth something to do.)

sub-lingual B12, 2x/week (supposed to take it once per week, but I made a habit of taking one on Sunday AND Wednesday, just in case I miss one of them.  B12 isn't stored, so you can't OD on it.)

calcium, @ 1200-1500mg/day (combination of Viactive, calcium citrate pills, chews, gummies.  No more than 500mg at a time, your body won't process more than that.  Spread 'em out.)

vitamin D, 2000 IU/day (was just upped to 2,000 from 1,000)

Biotin, 5,000 mcg/day (unless I understood your comment incorrectly, Biotin is NOT a substitute or supplement for protein.  From my bottle - "Biotin is a water-soluble B Vitamin that assists protein and fat metabolism for energy use.  Water soluble vitamins are not stored in the body, so they should be consumed every day.  Biotin also helps promote the health of skin, hair and nails.')  I've taken this for years due to my thyroid being mucked up.  I KNOW it's helped my nails.  Has it helped my hair?  I'm not going to stop taking it to find out.

I had a hysterectomy 8+ years ago, so have not had to take iron, but at my 3 year follow-up my doc suggested I add a children's chewable with iron each day as my ferratin level was on the very low end of normal.  The odd thing?  I found the amounts and daily values in the children's to be identical to the regular Centrum I've been taking.

One more comment I like to make regarding vitamins:  Taking them daily, for the rest of your life, is a part of this whole WLS deal.  If you can't commit to taking them, you shouldn't have the surgery.  People have suffered irrepairable damage by NOT taking them.   YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIKE THEM.  YOU JUST HAVE TO TAKE THEM.

Amen.
