5 months out - when will my hair quit falling out

I'm still losing a lot of hair.  I know it's to be expected and I'm working really hard every day to remember to take all my vitamins etc.  I even have stopped washing it every day to help with the wear and tear so to speak.  I'm using the Nioxin and my Doc swears the Biotin doesn't help.

Is there a point where the shedding will stop and I will regrow some of it?  Luckily my hair wasn't thin to begin with.

Thanks

Tess

Tess...It seems my hair loss has slowed way down.  I also had very thick hair so a little loss was ok, but not a lot!!  I use Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and I take Biotin.  Hope it slows down soon!!  Donna

Thanks Donna, I do too!  I can really tell a difference now.  At least most women get it back, they said some of the men don't.  Which I think is a big bummer for them!

I totally believe in the Biotin.....I believe it did help, because once I stopped taking it the hair really fell out.....So I just keep taking 1 pill a day.......

Good luck, Kelly

I agree with Kelly's post. I haven't had surgery yet - this coming Tuesday - but I have been taking biotin for about 2 months now and my hair has never been thicker! I think your doctor misinformed you. It doesn't hurt to take Nioxin with Biotin, does it? If not, I'd do that. Doesn't hurt to try.

Congrats on such a huge weight loss!!!! Good going!

I had thin hair to begin with, so the hair loss was my #1 concern from a vanity standpoint.

Yes, I lost a lot, but not so much as to feel like a freak.  And yes, I use Nioxin, and I've been taking Biotin for years (thyroid issues gave me the thin hair).  I take 5000mcg/day.  Does it help?  Well, let's just say I'd have to stop taking it and see if my hair started thinning again, so I'm gonna keep taking it.  No harm - and it really seems to help my nails, too!

My hair, when it started coming back in, came in CURLY!  I look like I have a perm most days, unless I blow it out.  Odd, but I'll take it.

And one more thing.  When you've had surgery and have stalls along the way, you may notice that your hair loss slows during those stalls.  So I decided - having a bunch of hairs stuck to the "product" on my hands is a GOOD sign that I'M LOSING!!!!

OK!  I got the Biotin 5,000mg!    Is this the look I'm going to achieve?!    LOL!

Darla - I like the way you think girl!  I guess I should look at it as a badge of honor to show for my almost 100 lbs lost!

Jen - good luck on Tuesday!  This is one of the best decisions I have ever made, I'm sure you'll think so too!

I had been trying to take it but I was having so many problems with a whimpy pouch and pills at the beginning.  But now that I am off all heart meds etc (Woo Hoo!)  I have more room for that Biotin pill now!  So I'm going for it!

Thanks for all of the input everyone.  I do sooooo  appreciate it as always.  Have a great weekend.

Tess

Tess-I'm at 7 1/2 months out and it's finally starting to slow down for me.  Thankfully I had really think hair to begin with becasue it's very noticble if i dont' straighten my hair.  I too stopped washing it every day to help with the hair loss.

It started at month 3 and lasted until about month 10 or 11 for my first RNY. I had really thin hair to begin with and i had lots of comments about losing it, but it was worth it!!!!!

I lost some hair at about 6 months post op but it pretty much stopped around a year out.  I have no problems now, almost three years from surgery.   I didn't use  Nioxin or Biotin (in fact, I've never heard of them until now), but getting enough protein was what helped me, I feel.
