Whoa.. that was fast. Got my date today.
Time for the lurker to come out of the cave again and make a post... :)
Well... I recently finished up my 6 months of nutrition and submitted for insurance approval two weeks ago on 4/26/10 (BC/BS). Never did I image they would actually get back to my doctor in those two short weeks and give their approval. so... I have my date now... and it is in TWO WEEKS! yikes! 5/24/10.
It was originally going to be 6/2, but they had a cancellation and gave me the option to bump up to 5/24. Less time to freak out I guess...
So, yes... I'm freaking a bit, just as I'm sure every other person has done. I think every emotion from extreme joy, to fear, to whatever has been experienced today. Bottom line is that I'm really excited to get this thing past me and start living a better life. Prayers are definitely appreciated!
Could someone throw out ideas to get me started on the liquid diet? Chatted with the great people at MBS and they recommended: Sugar free pudding, applesauce, jello, broths, and Body Fortress or Pure Protein from Target. Anything else out there that is good? I'll do some searching on the forums as well.
So... here we go! Giddy up!

Hi, I am also a lurker. My date is May 19th with Dr. Drew also. I started my liquid diet last wednesday. It is going pretty well. I went on line and ordered a package that includes everything except for the liquids and the jello. Comes with a menu. It is working good. it's at bariatricdiet.com Good luck to you. Jamie
Thanks for the package idea, I'll have to check that out. I picked up a couple protein drinks from target tonight to get started tomorrow, there wasn't much of a selection. I've been super impressed with everyone at MBS (Minneapolis Bariatric Surgeons) so far. Sounds like I'll be going the Monday after yours. Please post how everything goes! Assuming you're over at Abbott as well?
Best,
John

Not sure who or what MBS, but if it/they are not your surgeon's office, you better check with your surgeon on what he considers to be LIQUID. I did not see pudding and applesauce on my liquid list. Every surgeon is different, but most would consider those puree'd.
SF popsicles count, too, as liquids.
As for protein powders or ready-to-drink's, you'll find one or two you like. You might very well like Pure Protein, but I think there are much tastier protein drinks out there. So, what one person may recommend, may not suit your taste buds. Especially after surgery with all the changes. Just a heads up on that. Don't buy a lot for post-surgical days because you'll be lucky to be getting in your required water some days.
Good luck and go ahead and freak out...just means your day is near - WAHOO!

Thanks so much for the suggestions! MBS is Minneapolis Bariatric Surgeons (the group that my doctor is with). I'm pretty sure they said pudding and applesauce, but will hold off until I get my packet in the mail from them. My date is so quick do to someone's cancellation, so I'm getting the info a bit late from them.
Thanks also for the tip on not over buying pre-surgery... probably would have been something I would have done. :)
Continuing the freak out... :)

I'm using the same surgery group, too! It's good to know that you got a date so quickly. I am waiting for insurance approval, so we'll see what happens.
As far as the liquid diet, I am planning on the pre-packaged liquid diet that someone else mentioned. it seems easiest to me. :-)
Good luck to you! Keep us posted!
