DR. RUPP
Has anyone had Dr. Rupp of St. Paul Surgeons? I have been not so pleased with him and there services. It's been 2 years in pursuit of this surgery. They made me go through "umpteen" psych visits, which felt like I was part of a money making opportunity versus getting the help I really needed. I was referred, unknowingly, to a therapist who was a right winged christian who preached the "word of God" without my permission or knowledge by this outfit. I ended up finding out the center I was referred to was owned by the one and only Michelle Bachman and family! I thought this was extremely unethical on their part. Moreover, Dr. Rupp has been putting my surgery off again and again, having me take multiple tests which have been horribly painful and uncomfortable. I feel again, it isn't for my sake, but to cover his butt because he keeps referring to worry about getting sued.
I'd love to here feedback from any of you who have had Dr. Rupp.

Sounds like there is more to this...what exactly were the tests for? Does he feel you are not a good candidate for the surgery because of co-morbidity issues, or what?
And I'm a big believer in gut instinct, so if you're getting vibes that he is not the right surgeon for you, then listen to your gut & seek out another qualified surgeon. There are certainly plenty to choose from in the metro area.
Best wishes.

I felt the same way about the clinic I was going to! I was one step away from insurance approval but I, like you, was not comfortable with the practices for the clinic and feeling like just a number. So I am in the process for finding another clinic. After putting in so much time with the clinic I almost just continued on, but decided I was going to be seen by this Dr and clinic for a long time I BETTER feel comfortable with them! So I told them I was moving on and thank you. I did express my concerns to them at that time too :) I feel SO MUCH BETTER after listening to my gut and moving on. LISTEN to your gut! Like another person said....what's another 6 months when this is such a life changing decision :)
Good luck with your decision!

I agree with the other posters-- if you're not comfortable, find a different surgeon. Ultimately, you need to trust this person with your life. Two years is a lot of time invested... however, thankfully, you just need to get copies of your medical records and many clinics will be willing to review them and not make you repeat anything. Not trying to do any promoting or anything - but Minneapolis Bariatric Surgeons have been phenomenal. Their staff is incredible and I love Dr. Schwartz. There are 2 other docs in the practice as well. but I have not met them. Find someone you trust.

I was also suppose to have Dr Rupp as my surgeon and got delayed many times. I brought my mother and sister along for the meeting with him the first time and ended up waiting to see him for over 2 hours. When we finally did meet him, like you, felt like a number. He appeared arrogant and not at all a very caring person. He also ordered a bunch of tests for me which I went through and then couldn't get back in to see him for another 2 months because he was going on vacation. I got fed up with how St Paul Surgeons was run (including the rudeness of the reception staff). Got my medical records from them and switched over to Surgical Consultants at Fairview Southdale. I would highly recommend them! Very professional and they helped me get through the process in a couple months time since they saw what I had been through already, including acceptance of my insurance. You are obviously not happy with your care and everyone's right---you need to feel comfortable with your surgeon. Good Luck to you!!
I had Dr Rupp a couple of years ago and I had a good expierience with him. With that being said I agree with the previous posters that you should go with your gut. I work for a clinic and there are patients that disagree with dr's everyday. If you don't get a good feeling from him or his staff then by all means find someone else. You have to remember you will be seeing them for a long time after surgery too. Good luck
It makes sense to only want to connect with those who had Dr. Rupp perform their surgery as you're looking for re-assurance, but do not discredit the advice given here by all the others. And it's a public messageboard, so others will chime in unless you set the rules in your original post that you don't want any other responses.
Good luck.
Good luck.
I had Dr Rupp and although I felt that I did go through a really long process, now that I've had my surgery I feel better prepaired for the frustrations and challenges I have after surgery because I had challenges and frustrations before I had the surgery.
I noticed according to what's under your picture that you already had the surgery. Did you have Dr. Rupp do it or are you still waiting?
