New Here - Hello
Hi I've been dabbling through OH now for a couple months, but have never peeked at the boards until now.
I have WLS surgery scheduled for next Wednesday at Abbott. As the day creeps up, I find myself getting more nervous. I wanted to introduce myself - I have a feeling I'll be on here quiet frequently. There's tons of info!

Alyssa,
Welcome to the boards & I'm so excited for you & your upcoming surgery! It's completely normal to be nervous as your big day approaches, we all were, so just know you're not alone in that. I'm glad you've found us on the boards & I hope you'll post more in the future, letting us know how you're doing post-surgery, throughout your recovery & weight loss journey. This board, and the many others on this site, are so valuable, offering so much support and insight. And, as someone already mentioned, attending local support groups is very helpful as well. There are many around the area, so hopefully you can find one to attend after your surgery.
Make sure to bring along some chapstick for your sugery, do lots of sipping & walking as soon as your able to after your surgery, and I wish you an uneventful surgery & a speedy recovery! Post and let us all know how your doing once you get back home!

I had my surgery at Abbott in February. The nurses were very helpful to me, I am sure they will treat you well. There are a few bumps in recovery but they are well worth it on the long term. I am finding this a bit like going back to school. There is a lot to learn, but it is an exciting adventure with lots of "stars" for good behavior. You will find your tool to be a good motivator for that good behavior.
Many are here to help, I have needed plenty along my journey. Keep connected and find a good local support group to share with. There is a group that meets at Perks on South Robert Saturday mornings and we have a fun Burnsville-Eagan gathering as well. Look for the table with lots of water bottles in addition to the local offering.

Hello, Alyssa! Welcome. You are in very good hands with Dr. Schwartz - he did my surgery the last day of last Sept. I'm down 101 pounds and feeling better all the time. Take care, do what they tell you, and may your surgery be as simple and uneventful as mine was!

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY! Working on the next 25. Then I'll tackle more...
