OK, I admit it............ I'm hiding food

But not in the way you'd think.

I really have food issues since surgery.  Most of the time I struggle to eat.  Not much tastes good anymore.  I swear I have the world's smallest pouch.  It doesn't take much to upset it.

Sometimes I can eat alright, little bit fills me and something hits the spot.  Most of the time I struggle to even bother to eat.  I do a lot of greek yogurt, protein shakes and shrimp.

I buy things I think I can try and then when I don't or can't eat it, I sneak and throw it out so I don't feel bad for being wasteful.  I'm not even talking about food I shouldn't be eating.  I'm talking about good, healthy WLS food.  I haven't touched sugar and Easter came and went without even a nibble of candy.

I'm just over 3 months out.  Will this get easier with time.  Will my pouch be more forgiving?  I feel a bit frustrated, but love the results.  Thanks for listening and chime in if you want please.

Sorry things are rough for you!  I'm not much help!  My experience has been so different since my revision.  I can eat just the right amount of food and it satisfies me until it's time to eat again.  I hope that things get easier for you!

Can you donate the food instead of tossing it out? Maybe that would lessen your guilt.

Funny you should ask, I did donate the canned goods I knew wouldn't work and no one else would eat.  It's mostly refridgerator stuff.

I'm so sorry you are having trouble getting along with food.   I'm going to swing a chicken and hope that it gets better soon.   That said, you are doing mahvelous in the weight loss department!   I was able to get through Easter without candy, too, but then I bought some 1/2 price Snickers today.   Damn my hide, anyhow!

Tuna you are so funny!  Swing away girl!  I'd like to like to eat again, just to enjoy food a bit.

I do love shrimp all of a sudden since surgery..... hmmmmmm.  I know I am very strange.

Damn you snickers!

What I find, that's strange, since surgery is that I'll really "like" or crave something & have to eat it constantly.  Like right when I was able to go into the pureed stage I was craving tuna & I ate it for lunch & dinner everyday for days.  By the time I got to soft foods I was sooo sick of tuna & couldn't eat it again for a month or so.  Now I have the same thing going on with granola.  Gotta have it in my greek yogurt, or I have a granola bar, or just eat it plain.  I'm sure it won't be long before I'm sick of this too.  I try to add variety to my diet but I find that I really 'cling to' & 'like' some foods a lot & just stick with those more.  I, like you, LOVE shrimp.  I could eat them everyday for dinner.  Just plain, fresh shrimp with some ****tail sauce & I'm set!

So, what I would do is just buy the foods you like/want in this stage of things that way you don't have to feel guilty about throwing food away.  I have a handful of the same foods/staple things around all the time since surgery like: greek yogurt, granola, mini Luna granola bars, string cheese, tuna, crystal lite, beef sticks (from Lifetime), sugar free pudding, & unflavored protein powder.  All the other food I just eat little bits of whatever the family is eating (since they are eating healthy now).  I wouldn't buy things you know you won't like or won't want, or at least don't buy them in large quantities until you know that your pouch tolerates them well & that you really like them (that's what I found works for me).

Mel, look at you "to lose" # number just getting smaller and smaller!  You go girl!

I either really like something or it almost repulses me, very little grey area.  I've turned into a real food pain in the ass.  I didn't mean to!

I just hope it will be better with some time.  Gotta take Luke, my 2 yr old in to resp. Dr, he may have pnuemonia, wish him luck!

What did you find out about your son?  Hopefully he doesn't have pneumonia.  I have my fingers crossed for him.

Mel, Luke was premature and had Pneumonia 8 times by the time he was 2.  He got his Adenoids out last Oct and it's made a world of difference, but he has some virus now.   Resp Doc says he's "iffy"  so we have to bring out the big meds now with his nebulizer.  He's pretty sick, poor little monkey.  But he's a tough kid.  So we're just giving lots of extra fluids and snuggles.  But he is napping today, so that helps a ton!  Thanks for asking.  This too shall pass, quickly I hope!
