I used to take Ibuprofen for aches and pains (significant some days) Tylenol doesn't work too well for me. Any suggestions if we shouldn't take NSAIDs?

I am in the same boat tylenol does not work for me.  I am going in to the Dr.  Monday to find out if she will give me something else.  My arthris pain is horrible right now.

I also would like to hear if anyone is using something else.

Longtime,
I also posted this on the main board and got some other answers - some were narcotics which I can't imagine needing myself at this point. So you might want to read there too

You should obviously check with your doctor first and foremost.

But I have chronic back and knee issues, and when they flare up, Tylenol doesn't do a thing.  So one of the PNC nurses once told me that it's okay to take Advil Liquigels SPARINGLY, and they really do help!

The liquigel form breaks down much faster than tablets, therefore doesn't spend as much time in the stomach, irritating the lining.  You still don't want to take it regularly, but sometimes - you just need the PAIN RELIEF!

The upside to all this WLS is that once you're closer to your body's goal weight, the aches and pains DO tend to subside some - at least, they have for me.  I'm not familiar with arthritis.  I sure hope that losing a mess of weight helps that as well!

I did take the Advil liquigels today and they helped quite a bit but I will check on Monday for approval.

I am not one to take meds too often but once in a while. I didn't have any pain the first 4 weeks and now its back..Perhaps as the weight redistributes the body has to accomodate and that can create muscle issues as well.

Exactly.  Your center of gravity shifts, and you're more than likely MOVING more as well - so yeah, there are some unexpected aches and pains.  It's frustrating, 'cuz we've all been hoping to DO AWAY WITH the aches and pains!  But it does subside.

I also had to quit taking my NSAID that my rheumatologist had prescribed for a few years.  Since my surgery earlier this month, I found "new" joints that are affected, but must have been masked by the NSAID.  Tylenol is also pretty much ineffective for me as well.

I am now taking a non-narcotic pain reliever called ULTRAM (generic is TRAMADOL).  It has helped IMMENSELY!
