Small portion...please..
But then comes the band situation... my portion sizes are tiny. And when I get a really small portion... I get weird looks. It doesn't really bother me... it's just kind of funny.
For instance...
I went out to an Indian restaurant and got lamb curry. The Korean server asked if I wanted bread or rice. I said no. She said in broken English, "Just gravy?" I said, "Yeah... and the meat of course." She just stood there... "Just gravy?" LOL... I nodded. She brought out what would be a small portion for a normal eater... but perfect for me. I ate about 2-3 pieces and was stuffed. She also brought me a free bready dessert... "from the chef" of this small restaurant. I felt bad for not eating it... so I mutilated it... lol... I broke it up into pieces and hid it in the curry...LOL I ws giggling.
In the U.S., I usually just say, "I don't eat much" or "I have the LapBand"..... but here... I will get a deer-in-headlights reaction. lol

I suppose "doggy bag" means something different over there. And if you order a normal size but only eat a few bites they assume it's not to your liking and you insult the chef. You have an opportunity to learn some key phrases that will not offend yet get them to comply. I like my coffee and/or tea just plain without sugar. When I was in Israel I was always served with tons of sugar. Sugar was expensive and they wanted to make an impression and prove they were well to do to the foreigner. I learned how to say I was diabetic in arabic (don't remember now though) and that made them understand and me get my tea unsweetened.
Who knows, maybe there is a magic phrase you can learn...or make up a new word that catches on with all your favorite restaurants....
