Home from Surgery
I made it home - had surgery yesterday. So far, things are going well. I do have a lot of burps and pain in the belly, feeling the gas moving around. UGH
I was given a pureed soup for lunch today at the hospital, did not eat it, it was HORRIBLE. Water and diluted apple juice and my protein drinks are all I am having. I cannot eat a popsicle yet, my doctor said at least 3 weeks before I can. Something about it will make my pouch spasm.
OK, I will be around, taking it easy.
Thanks

So glad to hear your home & recovering & that your surgery went well. You'll definitely have lots of burping & gas pains in the beginning. If you're able to, walking around seems to help quite a bit to relieve the gas pains & to help your recovery along.
What food stage (of eating) are you currently at? Full liquids or pureeds?
Welcome to the losers bench...enjoy the upcoming ride, it's a wild one!!

They have me on liquids for the first week. I go see my NUT on the 23rd, then I may advance. And yes, lot and lots of gas.....ugh. but, it finally started passing this morning and I have been up and walking.
I can hardly wait, I gained 9 lbs from the IV fluids they pumped in me!!! I lost 18 in the 2 week liquid diet though, so, now we will see how long it takes for this to go away.
Thanks

Congrats on your surgery. The gas pain does go away, eventually. The diet for the first 2 weeks isn't that great, but you make it through it.
I'm surprised about the popsicles, I lived on them for the first 3 days post surgery. I do understand about the possibility of spasming though, luckily I've had no problem with cold drinks.
I wish you the best, and if you follow your program, you'll do great!

Welcome to the Bench from me too!
I too had the SF popsicles and the SF jello...and it saved me!
I know that in the hospital I had cold water and had spasms from it. Others get by quite well. Listen to your doctor, but maybe call and ask if you can TRY it. By one week I was having them and it surprised me since the cold water had given me trouble.
The gas thing...ya. It sometimes hurts. Remember to try to get rest. Sip sip sip. Rest rest rest. You will be on your feet in no time, but you are healing. My living room looked like a hospital ward for the first 3 weeks cuz I had to sleep on the couch. My bed was not comfortable.
I live in West Saint Paul. You aren't too far :)
Remember, Sip Sip Sip, Rest Rest Rest.

I am doing ok. I developed a rash all around my torso, they figure I am allergic to something in the wrap they had me in. I have found that cream of chicken soup is my life saver right now, mixed with my protein powder, it still is yummy.
Applesauce tastes horrible. I have a horrible taste in my mouth. I am keeping up with sip sip sip and walking, but it really is hard to sip sip sip so much, I always feel full.
Hope to make it to coffee tomorrow, I would love to meet some of you and see what advice I can get to make this transition a good one.
thanks for caring.
