Calcium, What do you take?
Women should be getting 1800-2000mg of calcium a day, guys can get by with about 1500-1600 or so.
Keep in mind, your body can only handle about 5-600mg at a time, so no matter what you need to spread it out throughout the day. PLUS, you need to have a 2-hour buffer before AND after taking iron.
Most regular muilti-vits have iron, so that means no taking calcium for 2hours before and after.
Most bariatric geared ones, like you get from Bariatric Advantage do not have iron, you get that separately.
I've used the citrical petites, they're a good size. I thougt they were 500mg per 2pill serving though? I just switched to the Walgreens version, which are 500mg and slightly larger (so maybe the citrical were smaller cause they're only 400?)
I typically take my first dose before breakfast, do my multi-vit and b12 at lunch, calcium again in the afternoon and again before or after dinner. I don't do iron cause I've been ok, but have my 1 year coming up... if I have to add that I'll do it at lunch with my multi-vit (I use the bariatric avantage).
Yea, I realize that I only get about 1500 in pill form, but I figure I make the rest up in my normal foods.
I also like the BA creamy chews. I use both the chocolate and lemon, they'er like having a lil treat. They just came out with raspberry. They're a lil pricey to use for all your calcium needs, but the lemon are like a starburst, so kinda helps with that candy craving at times. The current ones I have do have a bit of grittiness to them, but supposedly they've reforumulated things and greatly reduced that... I can't wait to try them... course they announced this just after I ordered four bags (if you buy 3 you get one free).
Celebrate also came out with a lemon bite that is divine. They're like little lemon cake bites. Also pricey, but to have on hand as a treat that has calcium... I'm gonna be ordering some. I think they are about to come out with a chocolate one as well.
Others have said there are chews in other flavors, like caramel at WalMart and other places, I haven't checked those out yet.
Good job on reading your labels by the way.. I've seen too may people focus on the "500mg" on the front of the lable and thought it was for each pill, didn't bother to notice that it's 250mg each and a dose is two of them.

Rob,
WOW, that many mg. of Calcium? Why did Sandy at Dr. Baker's at Unity tell me 1200? I really need to up it then.....
Yep, when I was taking my Calcium I took it 3 times a day, never with iron. I hate to see what my levels are.....
I can only get back on track and hope I'm okay....
My Citracal says 400 for 2 pills.....You'd think by there size it would be per pill....Yes, you always have to look at the labels.....
I'm ordering both the chews and the losenges from Bariatric advantage for the Calcium, that way I can mix it up.....
Paintball player eh? My hubby does it once in awhile, he has 3-6 guns, I lost track.....

Kelly,
I take the Isotonix Calcium I get from Barb at Church. A bottle is less than 20.00 and last about 3 months for me....You are absorbing about 95% of it versus much less when your body has to digest it. I take 2 capfulls a day with 2 oz of water and it taste like a citris drink.
The Multi Vitamin w/itron is alot more but lasts me a good 3 months also. All total for 3 months costs less than 80.00 for both, calcium and multi-vitamin w/iron
I am sure I could hook you up.... LOL Just saying...
Me
Bariatic Advantage is very good about sending out samples for those that want to try their stuff too.
Just go to the website and use the live chat to request some.
They also have this iCompli setup, it's a calendar where you can schedule your vitamins and it will send you text or email reminders.
One way to save $$ with BA is to get on their auto-reorder deal, and you will get free shipping. I get my multi and b-12shipped to me every 3 months, then I just need to contact them about 2 weeks ahead of my scheduled delivery and I can add extras, like the calcium bites or other stuff to the order and get the free shipping.
