I pumped up the exercise last week.. big time.  Made sure I got 70 grams of protein every day and was under 1200 calories every day and I GAINED 5 pounds?

WTF?

Has this happened to anyone else?  I'm getting very frustrate and concerned that I can't seem to get myself under 200..

Anyone else have this problem?  Anyone?  Bueller? Bueller?

Dr. Benn gave me an incredible tool.. and I intend to make the most out of it!!

Could it be your body is hanging onto fluid/building muscle since you pumped up your exercise?  Sometimes when you change things up it takes your body a little time to adjust before the weight starts to come off.  Your body could be hanging onto extra weight or water weight right now while it figures out what's going on.  I'm sure you'll have a loss of these extra 5 lbs. & then some coming up real soon, don't give up!!  You'll be under 200 in no time; I know it will happen for you!

This happend to me all the time after I worked out, and still does.....Went to my Doctor and he said I was retaining fluid, he gave me Lasix. I'm still on it today and I'm 2 years out.....

Or you could be gaining muscle?

I hear ya, because the same exact thing is happening to me.  I have been exercising like a crazy person and not only have I not lost any more weight, I am UP 4 pounds this week.  It is not possible that I ate 14,000 extra calories, so it HAS to be fluid retention, right?  It is still very very frustrating, it almost makes me want to quit exercising, but I know better than to do that.  I figure the benefits of exercise are more than calorie burning and weight loss.

On a side note, my clothes are getting a little looser, so maybe there is some merit to the adding muscle theory.

Hang in there, you aren't alone!

Good point - There is NO way I ate 14,000 extra calories so I should just quit worrying.

I have quite a bothersome pain in my lower left side these past few days, to the point of doubling over. It almost feels like I'm going to pop an ovary. I wonder if there is any correlation?

I am under 800 total calories and 450 net. I have not lost weight in three days, only 2# over seven days. We are all going to face a plateau here and there.  Keep on program.

RE the "pop an ovary" feeling, I was there last summer - had a hysterectomy in 2002, but kept the ovaries.  So having that cramp/pain sensation just did NOT make any sense!

Got to my OB, found several "large complex masses" on my ovaries following a thorough ultrasound, and ended up on the table again - had to get the masses and ovaries out.  And as long as I had to undergo yet another surgery, I was able to get a hernia - what turned out to be a MAJOR hernia - repaired, and my nasty belly skin went buh-bye, too!

So maybe see your OB, get checked just to be safe.

I'm in the same boat. 3 weeks ago, I FINALLY started exercising at 3 months out and last week for the first time since surgery, I GAINED 2 pounds. I know it has to be fluid or else my fat converting to muscle.... but still, I hate to see the numbers go in the wrong direction.

I do weigh in every Wednesday, so I'm thinking about switching to every 2 weeks now.

Keep with the exercise, we need it, and it WILL pay off in the end!

Its a combo of fluid retension and remember your if you burning calories and your body feels starved like it will with 1200 calories, its gonna fight like heck to save everly last pound. Try upping the calories with good protein....expspecially a snack after working out like almonds and string cheese or something. Hope to see you at spinning again soon!!
