Insurance???? HELP...ADVICE!
I have my second set of assessment evaluation for tomorrow. I see the Psychologist.
Well I just received a call saying that Medica will not cover my Psychological evaluation or my psych testing, since i do not have mental health coverage...I am so pissed although Medica requires a psych evaluating as part of the WLS requirements. That's $530 out of pocket. Does anyone have any ideas on this.
My other question is would anyone know if this would be part of the out of pocket deductible? HELP!!
Did you verify with your employer that the health plan you have does not include mental health? If they never informed you of that when you elected coverage, um...seriously, that just would not be right on any employer's part! And these days, I cannot see anyone excluding mental health - geesh, I didn't honestly even realize they could do that.
If you did have to pay this out of pocket, I would assume that it would go towards your deductible. You definitely would want to call Medica to verify that though.
Keep your chin up!

I had something similar to this happen to me when I was going through the psych part of things. I came to find out that the mental health part of my insurance goes by a different name & that visits & payments had to be processed through this other 'division' vs. my normal insurance. Maybe that's the case with your insurance?? I can't believe that your insurance won't cover the psych part of the WLS visits especially when that is required to get WLS. Silly insurance companies!
Another thing my weight loss clinic gave me was a list of the visits that I would need to have done for my surgery & then had me call my insurance company to see if they would all be approved & had me ask the insurance company for codes to make sure I would be approved. I was on the phone with my insurance company for like a 1/2 an hour going through this whole list of different types of visits to see if everything throughout my weight loss surgery process would be covered (including the psych part) & I got the approval codes up front from the insurance company so that when it came time for the billing if any issues came up I could go back to that sheet of paper and say "well I was told that this was approved & here is the code".
Maybe check to see if there's a different part of Medica, under a different name, that covers the mental health aspect of things. I have Blue Cross out of CA & they use someone else for all their mental health. I had to have my psychologist re-bill my visits to the other company since I thought things had to be billed through Blue Cross when instead it had to be billed through this other company that Blue Cross uses for their mental health. I was scared it wasn't going to get covered either, but it all worked out ok. Something to check out...
Hope it gets worked out for you!!

Thanks everybody for your comments. I have called my insurnace and I do not have coverage for mental health and unfortunately for me it will not be covered. I will just have to eat it if I want this to proceed. I have to start saving m oney from now.

For me (and I went through Fairview Southdale) I only had my intial Psych testing & then 1 visit with the psychologist once the results of my psych test were back. That was it. Unless your psychologist wants to see you for more visits you shouldn't have to go back for more. But, you'll definitely want to check with your specific weight loss clinic & their requirements for you to have your surgery. Hopefully you'll only need to have the one.
