Follow up to Knees/Hip pain
Ok, so I met with my PCP on Thursday last week regarding several things; not only the knee/hip pain I am experiencing (I figured if I had to pay the co-pay plus my begining of year deductible then I was going to get my $$ worth!!!).
First I have to say I had a WOW! I was sitting in the room and the nurse gave me these stupid paper shorts to put on and told me that I would need to change into them so the doc could check out my knees. I FIT INTO THE FRIGGEN SHORTS! I was so happy-normally I would have had to ask for the mumu gown!
Secondly, I was told that the reason my knees and hips are hurting is becuase of 3 things:
1: I walk different/hold myself differently
2. I'm sleeping different
3. The leg muscles and tendons needed to keep my patella from banging into my knee joint aren't strong enough so I will have to do some extra leg exercises and get them where they are supposed to be.
I also asked to have my thyroid checked and was shocked by what I found out. I have to say first that I knew it would be really wacky but the number itself was a shock. The TSH level for a "normal" person should be between 0.3-5.0 and according to my online test results I got >300 on my result!!!!The doctor called me and told me they thought it was wrong so they ran the test twice and got the same result both times. So needless to say that they have adjusted my medication. I guess that could explain why I'm tired, losing so much hair and my skin is so dry. They also are amazed that I'm still losing weight with my numbers so off.
In addition, I have to go back in and have a sleep study done again to see if they can take me off of my CPAP machine which I highly doubt since I was about 160lbs when I got put on it for snoring...I'm guessing that being 80lbs heavier than that isn't going to help me any but whatever. I meet with a nurse practioner who specializes in sleep disorders on Friday at 10:00am.

I just went to my Primary Care Doc yesterday for knee pain in one knee and hip from working out. It swells and hurts enough so I have to stop walking after 30 minutes. The WLS clinic folks told me I had to see my PCP guy if I wanted something to knock down the inflamation that was not an NSAID...
In any event, the doc gave me Trammadol (sp?)... It is only on the outside of my left leg and runs from knee to hip. He said it was probably and IT Band issue and that it was bwcause of the same reasons you were talking about.
The WOW moment I had was that on my pre-Op physical with him, my blood pressure a week before surgery was 142/92... Yesterday it was 104/70... I feel great and I wake up not feeling groggy or tired! (I also have a CPAP but not sure if I still need it)
Thanks for sharing about the knee and hip pain. That all makes sense...
Kevin
Yikes, that Thyroid number was high! I hope your meds kick in and help you out. I have sore hips and knees too! Was told the same thing you were. Did they tell you to take anything for it to help with the pain?
I quit using my CPap machine because I have quit snoring. I hope you get off yours at some point.
