grouchy pouch

So, before surgery I prayed that the surgeon would make my pouch extra small.  (mostly kidding)  I had hoped that I wouldn't be able to eat a lot right away and that whatever could be done physically and mentally to help me with this process would happen in my favor.  Well, I didn't expect this.  I've been vomiting since last week, water sometimes.  I did talk to the clinic on Friday a.m. and we figured it was inflamed from something getting stuck and I went with it all weekend.  Today, I called again because it just wasn't feeling right.  I did a swallow study today and the barium wouldn't go down...they had me walk for awhile and it eventually went down.  So, my pouch is extrememly slow!  Which is fine but it is going to take me forever to eat.  (right now it takes like 30-45 minutes)  Point to the story....Be careful what you wish for!  For the record, I wouldn't trade my surgery and my pouch issues for anything!  I'm down 53 pounds as of today, and I can't remember feeling this great!

One cool thing about having the swallow study was that I got to see a picture of my new inerds.  Pretty cool.  My stomach was the size of a golf ball.  I love it!

"My stomach was the size of a golf ball."

For the sake of newbies on here, please note it is NOT your stomach that is the size of a golf ball, but rather your RNY pouch. Correct?

Also, wouldn't this mean that your stoma opening is too narrow? And if that is the case, shouldn't they try to stretch it open some to allow your food and liquids to empty more efficiently? If not, do you run the risk of throwing up/foamies and or pouch irritation or ulcers?

And believe me, I'm not a RNY patient, but they can re-open/stretch stomas because I have a family member that had to have that done. She had it stretched 3 times and it stayed on the third try and made life much more pleasurable once she could actually eat again.

So, I would still encourage you to ask more questions and keep an eye on this. You might think it's great for the weight loss, but think that through a little more and make sure you can deal with the other issues it could bring about.

Just trying to be helpful by shedding a different perspective on it for you.
