I'm new here...surgery in a few weeks!
Kristine,
First welcome and glad you posted! I also had my surgery at Abbott and had a great experience! Dr. Drew wasn't my surgeon but he operated on several of my coffee group friends and they loved him! I think truly the hardest part was the 2 week pre op liquid diet. Once you get past that it's smooth sailing mixed with some hard work!
Keep us posted!
Kristy
Yes, 7 years is long. but when I first started looking into it (just for curiosity) my husband's insurance would not cover WLS, so then that was that.
Didn't give it another thought for years later, then I have been dealing with my father's illness for the last 4 years. He had ALS, he passed away last summer.
I guess since my father died pretty young, I've been thinking of my own life. I decided to look into WLS again.
It has been pretty smooth sailing, so far.
Just got my "food" for the liquid diet yesterday. I am just ready to get it all over with and start on my new life :)
My biggest worries are the pain after surgery and the recovering time.

If your biggest worries are the pain and the recovery time you're in good shape! For myself I was out of the hospital in 24 hours, in little to no pain and Christmas shopping the day after coming home from the hospital.
I don't know what part of the city you live in or if you've attended a Saturday coffee but for myself the support I've receive from the Burnsville/Eagan coffee group has been invaluable. We're meeting this Saturday at 8:30 at the Panera attached to the Burnsville center. Several of the regular attendees had your surgeon as well. Join us if you're up for it!
Best of luck,
Kristy

I am such a chicken when it comes to surgery, I had my gallbladder out back in 2001 and some other surgeries behind that. The healing time is always better than what I think it will be.
If all goes right, I will have surgery on the 15th and my surgeon said I should be able to go home on the 16th! (knock on wood)
Thanks for the invite Kristy,
I don't actually live in the Twin Cites (although I grew up on the East Side of St. Paul) I now live in Hutchinson, it's about an hour West of Minneapolis. So Saturday morning coffee groups won't be easy for me to get too, although it would be nice to come to some once in a while.

It doesn't matter how long it took you to make the final decision for WLS, as long as it is the right choice for you. Soon, you will be on the loser's bench with many others. For some this was a no brainer for others it was a long thought out process. Myself it took about 10 years to finally decided to go with the RNY.
On March 15 will begin your new journey.
Congrats!!!
