The dreaded chocolate.
I don't dump. EVER. So what have I done? EAT. I'm down 63 (WLS 9/30/09) and feel great. But the lbs are not coming off like they once did. I'm experimenting with chocolate and have found I can put a lot away without a single reaction. It makes me soooo sad....I'm talking to myself and trying not to bring it into the house. I'm doing well with food (1/2 cup at meals pretty much) but the snacking on nuts and chocolate is worrisome. I need to get back on this forum and read all your inspirational stories to keep my motivation. You guys rock.
Repeat after me:
"JUST BECAUSE I CAN, DOESN'T MEAN I SHOULD!" Amen.
One of the worst things we can do to ourselves is TEST our TOLERANCE for EVIL THINGS! Yet I bet most everyone here would have to admit (if we're being honest) that we've all done it.
If you're LUCKY, you'll DUMP! If you're not so fortunate, you WON'T. Seriously - is chocolate (or chips, or cookies or ice cream or *fill in the blank*) SO DAMN GOOD that it's worth the guilt you feel after you eat it? Is it just so fulfilling that you're willing to endanger your success with WLS?
I think not.

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
I totally agree - those calories add up. I found out the hard way. For the past two weeks-- I've done the same thing. And paid for it by not losing much weight! OK... so TODAY I made a deal with myself. Only a planned snack and it must have protein in it. That is working great today. Plus I added stationary biking to the mix. I refuse to let carbs reverse what I've started.
By the way, we have the same surgery date! I want to use this first year to get my health in order.

Sounds like something I could try....and no, chocolate isn't what being healthy is...but I'll never understand the power it does have. I've continued to see the psychologist who did my MMPI because I really liked him - we talk about all kinds of mental health stuff...but I don't know if he REALLY gets it either. Maybe only fat and (former fatties!) people get it - there is an addiction there that is so powerful. But I don't ever want to go back - I want to move forward.
Chocolate is NOT what makes me happy. But a smaller pants size isn't the only answer either. I have to keep working toward everything that makes me happy! and chocolate shouldn't even be on the list. Its a struggle. I'm going to keep trying. thanks for being there for me!!!

my tip is this:
don't keep it in the house.....if it's not ready at hand, you are less likely to hop in your car to go to SA or where ever to grab some to eat
don't beat yourself up though, if we were all perfect, we wouldn't need WLS to begin with!
Good luck - and cheer up! Congrats on the 63 pounds!

You are absolutely right. When I'm at work or out and about - I don't seem to have the same weakness. I can't believe how hard it is to change your mindset - I always thought being thinner would feel so much better than food tastes - but you just don't THINK about that when you're eating. Well, I should say when I AM eating! Sigh. I'll keep the faith and keep plugging away. I have my peeps on the forum here to keep me motivated. Thanks again for the support. I'm really needing it right now!
The girl who sits across from me at work has a large jar of Hershey Bliss Meltaway Raspberry & Milk Chocolate treats. On Friday I watched her eat about 6 of them (which is technically a serving) during her 4 hour shift. I ate one and I ate it in pieces because I DO dump. I can eat more and I have in the past but I have it in my brain "Hey, this little piece here? 30 calories. It doesn't benefit me in any way to eat a lot of them unless I want to spend A LOT of time at the gym tonight." The other night I shed light on how many calories are in Gin for my husband. For a guy trying to lose weight casually I don't see how a 3oz gin drink helps him (116 calories per 1.5oz? good lord, no thanks!)
I bought a bag of raw almonds & cooked them up using this recipe: www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/alton-brown/ginger-almonds-recip e/index.html and then I keep cheese sticks with me or grab an apple.
Chocolate is great once in a while but too much of it causes guilt.. and sometimes constipation for me! LOL I try not to eat it mostly because it causes so much discomfort.
