Do you count carbs? I'm 9 mons out and stalled, and I've gotten the advice to minimize carbs, but I know we need them too...

What are your guidelines? My NUT keeps telling me not to worry about them at this point, but I know I'm eating too many?

THanks!
Stacy

I was told on the RNY to keep carbs under 20.  Well between my protein shake (8oz of milk) and my yogurt for breakfast, I'm already at 27... so now what?

Is 20 a realistic carb goal?

I personally haven't counted a carb or a calorie in 7 years since my WLS.  I've focused on protein and the amounts of food I've consumed.  WLS is not the Atkins diet.  If you're at 27 with a protein shake and some yogurt, and your goal is 20-30...there's something wrong there.  20-30 isn't realistic in my opinion.  Remember that plateaus happen - eat healthy, drink your water, exercise, and keep the faith.  I "plateaued" all the way down to goal.  You will get there!

Thanks Lori!

Well I was reading that a diabetic diet should have 50-60 carbs a day---
so 20 for us seemed totally unrealistic...

Also, knowing what I know, if I kept it at 20 now for losing the rest of my weight, as soon as I add more carbs in later down the road, I'm sure I'd gain. I'd rather have a realistic daily carb count now and do everything else around that, to lose the weight.. learn how to work/balance for long term goals...

I am working really hard this week at keeping up on the protein, walking more, and logging food.
Yesterday was 49g carbs. I ate two mini size (1 stick) kit kats yesterday afternoon for a whopping carb hit.. was it worth it? not really..

I've asked this question on other boards and I was told under 30 by people that were pretty much following the Atkins diet. Others told me that their NUT told them keep it under 100 so that's what I watch now. But maybe analyze what your averaging now and try to cut it by 10 and then more the next week and see it if it helps.

I hit a stall and I realized I wasn't netting enough calories. I bumped up my calories a little and I lost 3 pounds this week!!

Stacy!!!!!!!!! HOLY BUCKETS YOU'RE TINY!!!

I don't count my carbs unless I'm wondering if it'll make me dum*****t.  Ironically, following diabetic carb counting helps me not dump (as long as it's under 15-20g of carbs I'm okay).

I stall for about 3 weeks at a time and then see a 5-7 pound loss which is always.. weird.
