Joint pain and muscle weakness

On Saturday the 20th I will be 4 months out from surgery.  I am down over 60 lbs and 5 pants sizes all of which I am very excited about....however, I have noticed that my knees and hips hurt more and my muscles get tired easier.

I'm guessing my knees and hips is because I tend to sleep in the fetal position now because I'm so cold ALL THE TIME (I sleep with long underwear, sweats, a sweatshirt, 2 pairs of socks and 2 blankets every night and I still wake up in the middle of the night because I'm cold).  But the pain in them is getting so bad that I am having issues with going up and down my stairs and I have had to limit the amount of exercise and walking I'm doing because it hurts.

In addition, things I had no problems with prior to surgery are making my muscles very tired now.  For example I work for the government and stuff envelopes as part of my job and after about 5-10 min of doing this work I have to rest my arms because the muscles are tired.  I do try and get all of my water intake in so I'm not sure if dehydration is the case but could very well be, because let's face it there are days where I'm just not able to do it.

I do have an appointment scheduled with my primary doctor for this Thursday to discuss my problems I'm having but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

As you lose weight your body changes....that includes how you walk and carry yourself.....everything shifts....that will also cause pain.

That's what my husband said as well but this is going beyond what I would consider "normal" in this situation.  I had to call into work yesterday because I had problems getting out of bed in the morning.

I figured I would have some of them because of the trauma I put my body through but WOW this is intense!

I agree with Connie........... Your body is going through alot right now and it is just trying to adjust.  It will get better...............  Hang in there and let us know what your DR says.................

I went through the same thing.  My big thing was I needed to increase my protein.  Once I did that things did calm down.  Also I have heard of some people having to increase their calcium intake.  Good luck!  It will get better.

Hmmm..that's an interesting thought.  I have had a couple of bad food days in a row (about 4) where no matter what I eat I just feel like crap afterward.  I've tried slowing down and chewing more but that's not working so I'm sure that my protien consumption is down quite a bit over the last few days which could explain the pain hurting more than it usually does.

Thanks for the info!

WOW!!! all this sounds like what i am going thru now...before any surgery.. I was hoping that when I lost the weight I wouldn't have the pain anymore.  Thinking it was caused from being overweight.
The cold part I have heard a lot of too...it scares me because i am the type that is cold all the time as it is. (without any weight loss).

I wouldn't let it scare you because everyone's body reacts differently to any surgery they have.  You could very well not experience any of what I am going through and the issues I"m having could be something as simple as I"m not doing something I should be doing.

One thing I've learned since I've had this surgery is I really need to listen to my body and what it's telling me and then put that need first-and right now it's telling me I'm not doing something or it needs something else to function at it's best so I'm going to figure out what that something is.

Even with this bump in the road, I still would have the surgery because the quality of my life has already drastically improved and I am only half way to my goal.

Me too!  My hips, knees and back are killing me!  But I know I'm holding myself differently and am walking differently so my body is a bit miffed at me.  I hope it gets better soon because it's slowing down my exercise.

I guess we just have to get used to the new us!  Oh, I'm cold too, but it beats the hot flashes I was having before!  I hope you feel better soon!
