Prior to surgery weight loss?
I was told that I had to lose 10 pounds before surgery, or they would have to reschedule. My clinic requires a 1-day liquid diet before surgery as well.
Have you met with the dietitian yet? Our clinic is willing to support you in any way possible to help you reach your weight goal, including weight loss drugs if necessary. They set easy to achieve goals, and help you find other ways to avoid boredom eating, and overeating.
I have now lost my 10 pounds, met with my surgeon, and they are finally going to submit my paperwork. Where are you in the process?

Thanks everybody for your great response.
Nicole, I have just got first appointment..which is suppossed to take 4 hours they say. My questions come up as I do my own research or as I see some posts that people have been posted. When I went to the seminar they did mention that we did need to lose some weight prior to surgery and that every case was different. My appointment is Monday i am excited but nervous hope they tell me I could have the surgery and that my insurance will apporve it.
How long after did they decide to go ahead and send the paperwork?

I was told I needed to lose 15 lbs (which ended up being about 5% of my body weight) before I had surgery. I worked at losing this weight while I weight through the pre-surgery process, like meeting with the psychologist, with the dietician, with the surgeon, etc. I needed to get to my weight loss goal by 1 week prior to my surgery or they could possibly post-pone my surgery. The main purpose of needing to lose the weight was to show I was ready to change my life & to shrink my fatty liver. I attended a pre-surgery class, where I weighed in, and I had only lost 12 of the 15 lbs. It ended up being ok & they went ahead with surgery. I also had to do a 1 day liquid diet the day before surgery, which caused me to lose an addt'l 6 lbs, so when I actually went to have sugery I was down a total of 21 lbs. (so I ended up 6 under their recommended 15 lbs).
Your clinic, dietician, and surgeon will set a weight loss goal for you (if any). Every clinic/hospital is different with how they run their program & their requirements. I personally didn't have a problem with needing to lose some weight, it just helped me start eating good prior to surgery, and start getting my life all set up and ready for what it would be like after surgery.
What hosptial/clinic are you going through?
