Is it normal?

Oh wise ones.....is it normal to have good days and difficult days when it comes to getting food in?  Some days it's easy to get things in and other days it's really a struggle to get my tummy to accept anything.  I spend a lot of time taking deep breaths and praying to not throw up.

Not sure how wise I am on the subject, since I only had surgery a couple months before you, but I have found that there are days (sometimes a week or more) where I won't have much of an appetite at all.  Then there are a few days here & there where I seem to be a lot more hungry than normal.  All the other days I seem to fall somewhere in the middle/just about right, where I am able to eat the amount I should, feel satisfied/full from it, and all is good.  But yes, I definitely still have my days where it's a struggle to get in much of any food at meals.  Not sure why that is...

One weird thing I've found out is when I'm not hungry & not able to get in as much food I have found that is when the scale stops moving for me.  Then when I start to get hungry again, after a week or so of not being that hungry, the scale will start to move again.  I'm sure the scale isn't moving when I'm not eating as much as I should just cuz' my body thinks I'm starving it or something.  But sometimes it can feel utterly impossible to try to force food down when you're just not hungry & you feel full instantly!

Just wanted to let you know that you're definitely not alone in feeling like this!

I'm 9 mons out and there are still days where I barely eat or forget to eat. Other days I've eaten too much. Somedays my pouch is a grouch and food doesn't agree with me. Otherdays I have lack of energy or just feel blech and I don't have any desire to eat...
If I eat to fast I still get the pukers...

But most days are great and problem free!

I know you've heard it 1000 times, but just go slow. Only introduce one new food at a time... chew new foods well. Take your time eating.  If you're having a bad food day just go back to basics and /or protein shakes... I still do that...

*** I just ate scrambled eggs about 5 mins after I posted this.. here at work.. and guess what?  up they came!!! Didn't agree! So even us post-ops out a ways have bad days.. and now that it's started this way I'm sure my pouch will be grouchy all day and I don't have anyway to get a protein shake in here at work. Yogurt to the rescue today!****

Two months from now you'll probably be thinking -- can I go back to two months ago.  You are still healing....don't rush food or your pouches acceptance of stuff.  I still can eat something one day but not the next and I'm 2 1/2 years out.  Keep your fluids up and just keep moving forward.  It will get better.

Yep!  Sounds exactly like me too, I'm almost 7 wks out.  And YES Mel, it happens to me too, when I don't eat I can go up a pound or get stuck on a number!  It's so weird and I don't get upset because I know it will go down again.

This is a HUGE process and anyone who says it's the easy way out, has no knowledge of how this works.  I thought I was well educated going into this and it's still stuns me sometimes.

Thanks for the input!  Stacy, you said it perfectly...pouch is a grouch!  That's exactly what it feels like!  I have only thrown up 3 times...twice right after I take my iron pill and last night on scrambled eggs that I have had probably 4 times before.  Cream of wheat it is for me today.  Thanks for the wisdom, so glad to know I'm not the only one!

Besides all these "grouchy" moments.  Are all of you pretty happy with the decision to have the RNY?   I am just starting mu journey but have done a lot of research on all the WLS.  I might be surprised too it seemed like it. :)

Am I happy with my decision to have RNY?

I'd do it ANNUALLY if that's what it took to maintain my loss.   Any other questions?

I'm down 26 pounds since surgery and I feel fantastic already.  I'm super excited to see where I go from here.  I occasionally second guess my decision but it never lasts long and it's usually because I'm craving something I shouldn't be eating in the first place.  I would do it again in a heartbeat!  You just have to do what you have to do and learn along the way!  The great thing is having all these wonderful people to bouce questions off of!  Best of luck on your journey!

I'm almost 5 months out and still have days when I can only eat a teaspoon or so at a time, then the next day I'm fine and can eat 1/3 cup-1/2 a cup no problem,  On the tough days which happens every couple of weeks or so, I revert to soup.

good luck, you are doing great
