I need some support
Ever since I've started to try soft/solid foods I've been vomiting and getting dehydrated. I went in once two weeks ago to get a round of IV fluids (2 hours for 3 days) and was sent to get another round this past Thursday. Well, I went to a small dinky local hospital and wasn't happy about it, so I was going to wait to go to my normal place tomorrow. I've been feeling light headed and dizzy all day so I called the on call doc (just happened to be my surgeon). Well, by the end of the conversation I kind of felt he was blaming this on me (which has happened in the past), he didn't come right out and say it this time, but that's what I felt like. The whole reason I decided to convert my band to bypass was because I have known my doctor for over 3 years and have built a trusting relationship with him. Now everytime I call the office I'm getting someone new (from the new receptionist that doesn't know me to both the PA's whom I don't really know), I'm feeling kind of let down right about now.
I'm feeling lost and not sure what to do. The PA thinks my intolerance to food is because of spasms so I've been using Ativan, the first two times I tried it I was in heaven because I could EAT!! Well, it hasn't been working as well now even after upping the dose. They also switched me from Nexium 40mg BID to Prilosec 40mg BID which I don't think is working (maybe even worse). I'm really bummed because my doc said my heartburn should go away after bypass.
I'm not trying to knock my surgeon (and I'd appreciate if no one else did either), I'm just maybe looking for someone whose had a similar experience or even just some plain old words of comfort. I've been missing work and school because of this and that absolutely needs to stop! I'm almost done with school and don't want to mess things up at this point.
Sorry I rambled on a "little"
Thanks in advance for any help, Christine

What types of food are you trying to eat?
Are you eating too fast?
Are you drinking with meals?
It's crucial that you do not allow yourself to become dehydrated. I also wonder if you are getting in enough protein? Do you indulge in protein shakes?
I think you are feeling so poorly, perhaps you misinterpreted your surgeons words ....if you trust him then I hope that is how it went...that you are just not yourself and feeling particularly vulnerable and just took what he said wrong...I've done that a time or two myownself....
I hope you feel better soon but in all honesty, if you are seriously becoming dehydrated, you need to get fluids in you via an IV if necessary!
Take care and I wish you well.

but you have to be your own advocate....don't be afraid to be pushy if necessary
they work for you....not the other way around....I'd explain that you want to be sure he'll be available when you come in on Thursday as you'd really like to schedule some time with him one - on - one.
Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself! You deserve the treatment you want and feel you need!
And waiting til Thursday? Only you can decide if that's the smart thing to do....I can't stress enough how important staying hydrated is
I'd also start maybe eliminating one food at a time to see if it relieves your issues...it could be just one certain food wreaking havoc on your entire system!
Drink more water, add Crystal light for flavor. Its hgard but you shoulod follow everything they told you and gave you when you left the hospital or after your first meeting with them in the office after surgery.
