Fond Farewells ~

Okay, so on the opposite end of the rainbow from guilty pleasures might be Fond Farewells...

What, if anything, do you MISS about life pre-WLS?

I don't miss ANYTHING enough to wish my WLS away, but if I had to identify one thing that I WISH I could have retained in my post-op lifestyle?  It would be the ability to GORGE myself on snow crablegs.  Seriously - my favorite food, hands-down.  My hubby and I would cook up 7 or 8 POUNDS, melt up a mess of butter, and spend the evening cracking shells and enjoying ourselves silly!  We even had designated crab shirts we would wear whenever we had crab, so we didn't have to worry about getting those pesky butter stains on any other clothes.

** sigh **   The nice thing is, I can still EAT crablegs, just a whole lot less of 'em!

How 'bout you?  What do YOU miss?

And here I thought you were leaving the board or moving or something given the title of your post. LOL
(seriously, scared me...don't do that again!)

I'm not sure I miss anything really, but you know one thing that pops into my head is that at least my skin was filled out and taut! Geesh, I'm a melted candle mess now and feel like I could go hang with the grannies in Arizona at the pool 'cuz I'd fit right in with my saggy skin.

But I'll still take it any day over the previous state of being!

Nope, can't imagine any drama here ever pushing me off the boards!  I've seen plenty of people leavehere, crabby or unhappy, but nope - I'm here to stay.

I had a neighbor call me up once, frantic because she heard we were moving!  Turns out, we had just been doing the parade of homes thing just for S&G, found one OBSCENELY EXPENSIVE house we were all gaga over, and Trav had been talking about "HIS" room in this particular house with one of his friends.  The friend misinterpreted the conversation, and all of a sudden - the rumor mill being alive and well in Hanover - we were moving!  Nope.  I told this neighbor the next time I move, I'll either be going to a nursing home or a funeral home.

I get you on the skin thing, tho - I never hesitated to put on my mu-mu swimdress pre-op and hit the pool with my kiddies, blubber be damned!  But the scrotum skin?  ugh...   Don't get me wrong, I still DO swim, but I usually put a nice pair of those quick dry swim shorts on over the suit.  Cover the upper thighs.  Don't want to scare small children...

You are so damn hilarious, Darla!  Sometimes I laugh right out loud reading your posts.  Scrotum skin scaring small kids, indeed!!!

HA ha Darlin' Darla...

I agree.. I don't miss anything enough to go back and not have WLS....

However, I miss steak... hands down.
I tried the smallest bite of a friends and it was no go. Tons of post ops talk about how they've never been able to eat it.. but I know there are peeps out there who can. I hope someday I can again. My sister is 4 yrs out and can't go near it. Doesn't process.

I was ultra jealous at our work holiday party of all the steak dinner people.. I had salmon and it was fabulous, but can't compare to a steak baby!

Stacy, just 'cuz you can't do steak now, doesn't mean you'll NEVER be able to do it.  Nope, things change.  Obviously, you want to be very careful, but don't be afraid to try it again!  Just make sure its very tender, chew it to death, then chew it some more - and remember, a little steak goes a LONG WAY!

I miss the buffets BUT I am so happy where I am now.........  I have been to a couple buffets since surgery I take a bite or two of something and be done.  It is so AWESOME instead of having 3-4 plates I have 1/2 of one and I don't feel left out.

I too agree that I don't regret having the surgery, but I do miss being able to take a BIG BITE out of something-be it a burger or a sub sandwich-and just chew a little and swallow.

This constant chewing gets me down at times, especially when I see others enjoy eating oh so much.  But then on the other hand, I think to myself...HOLY CRAP SLOW DOWN!  Noone is going to take it from you!

WAIT WAIT WAIT.... I realized I miss something more than steak...

ICE CREAM!
I'm a total sugar dumper. And yes they make sugar free treats that I am very happy to appreciate.

But I miss full sugar, full fat, gloppy sloppy ice cream. The sugar free/low sugar versions just aren't the same...

Yes I can have a bite but not much more than that.. I'm a super dumper.. so....
