OT: Update on Lynn Kahiapo Family

I spoke with Lynn this weekend, her family is currently staying at a friend’s place who is out of town for the next couple of weeks – it’s a small place, but it’s a Godsend for them. They also have a lead on a house about a block from where Lynn lives – it’s smaller than what they really need, but will be a Godsend if they get it. If you’re the praying type, please pray that it works out. Also, please pray that things work out with the property management company of the place that burned, there’s some suspicious stuff going on and there’s the potential that they will sue Lynn and her family for causing the fire even though it was not conclusive that anything they did caused it. Regardless of the cause, it happened and it sucks for all interested parties and hopefully everyone can just move on without litigation.

 

Many people have offered up things and have asked for an update as to what they have received. So I will attempt to give a list of what’s been offered up and what I’ve received so far (albeit, I haven’t gone through all of it just yet). The list is after the update.

 

You’ll notice that many people have offered up TVs so probably don’t have a need for those anymore, although I have not received any yet. Also, people have asked for what size bed linens they will need, for now they have 2 double beds lined up and we’re hoping for a couple of twin mattresses to go with the daybed someone has – so if you have double and twin linens that is good for now.

 

Also, as I’m collecting things I’m going to be washing everything before I repack to get to them. If anyone has extra laundry soap or dish washer detergent to help get all their stuff washed that would be greatly appreciated. Or if you’re able to thoroughly wash things prior to packing it up that’s greatly appreciated as well.

 

The hardest part of collecting items is people say, “I have ‘x’ let me know if they need it."  What would be helpful, is if you have something you’re ready to part with, please let me know how I can get it from you. If you’d rather wait to see if they need it, then hang on to it and after they get into a house we will send out a list of needs. I will try and keep you all up to date with what they need and please know that if they get more than they need they are planning on donating anything extra to Goodwill or a similar organization.

 

If you want to shop for things, I have a list of common household items I could send you to get them started. Gift cards are a great way to support their immediate needs. Lynn became extremely overwhelmed when she went to Target and started to think about even getting the very basic items.  Also, if your situation allows, you can donate to their fund, just send a check to:

For now, their biggest need is the items used on a daily basis, such as:

·         Shampoo/Conditioner

·         Body wash or soap

·         Deodorant

·         Brush, comb

·         Hair dryer

·         Winter coats, gloves, hats, boots

·         Socks

 

Other things that they haven’t been offered yet are things such as:

·         Dressers

·         Chairs to go with a kitchen/dining room table

·         Radio, dvd player

·         Night stands

·         Ironing board

·         daybed with a trundle bed that goes under it.  It is wood and wrought iron.  It will need 2 twin mattresses

·         Left overs from church event – items usually go to Good Will

·         computer/dresser bunk bed

·         Boxes

·         I would definitely have some things.  Depending on timing could be more if we have house sold as I will be disposing on furniture at that time

·         High top dining table with 2 chairs and an

·         outdoor wood rocking chair and table

·         Girls – High End Bike

·         Willing to go buy clothes or other items

Not sure if this is something that they would need but we have a bunch of unused U-Haul moving boxes (never put together) that we were going to use when we moved but never ended up moving.  They may want them as they get things or for when they move?  If they have a use for them I can hang onto them (as well as the TV stand w/the 6 shelves) til' they are needed.
