One thing that helped me when I transitioned into that stage was to use my toddlers forks, spoons and plates and then I prepared the food just like I would for her. Small bites pre cut and then used the smaller silverware so I wouldn't be tempted to take a "normal" size bite that I was used to. And then CHEW CHEW CHEW and if you think you chewed enough, chew some more.
