I remember she lived near me so I was excited when I came to this site.  I never did get to know her.  Please, if it isn't insensitive...what caused her illness?

Oh the pain her family must be enduring.  I wish I could soothe that...

Jess died from an addiction to alcohol and narcotics. 

Many of us who have had bariatric surgery will cross addict to another substance.  I also cross addicted to alcohol and checked myself into the hospital to get it treated in October.  At that time Jess was admitted to the hospital in the final stages of liver failure.  During my 6 hour pass from treatment I went to see her.  She was on a vent and unresponsive when I saw her and unresponsive.

Cross addiction for us is very serious and very real. 

I would recommend that everyone see a therapist.

I would especially recommend seeing a theripist if you are considering this surgery or have had this surgery.

fred  well said i spent many hrs talking to jess even talk to here when she had to whisper & was even confused i was to go see her in the spring i'm lost that i wont get to i as well was in  hospital with liver failure mine was from morphine i feel she was cheated of her life but will remeber the good and know i have another angel.. good job for admitting yourself hope your doing well

After she was awake from her enduced coma I went to see her.  She was still whispering and tired but it was nice to see her smile and alert.

I also feel she was cheated of her life but those are decisions that we make on our own.  My motivation for getting help is that I have a daughter who would be cheated out of my time if I did not do something.  As it is now, my sobriety is for me and no one else.  However, everyone gets to enjoy my life with me now.  I think being selfish about my sobriety leads to better lives for the people around me.

She died sober but not working a sobriety.  My life is much better because I get to practice it everyday.  I hope the same can be said for everyone seeking sobriety.

Thanks for posting this be it right or wrong. Jess has been heavy on my mind the last few days, odd as that sounds. My heart goes out to Jackson who has now been cheated out of rich things in life. They say there is nothing dearer than the mothers love. I am sure his heart is hurting.
My thoughts will be with her family in this time of sorrow, may they all mend as time marches on

I was just coming here to share this. Jess had recently moved back here to Hastings...I had helped her w/her move to West St.Paul, but knew she'd be back. Her brother is here. Anyway, I just got off the phone w/the funeral home and the family is planning on trying to contact her friends to have some sort of a memorial service of sorts at a later date, as well as they are accepting memorials on her behalf for Jackson. I spent a lot of time w/her over the last couple of years and getting our kids together (my Jessica and her Jackson were "boyfriend/girlfriend" if you ever asked them. LOL!) 

Jackson is now left w/out any parents and I'm sure will stay w/Jess's brother here in Hastings. Please keep him as well as the rest of her family in your prayers. I'll be trying to help out w/Jackson if they need me.
