Let today be your first day
to get back on track. It has been a long time since I have posted on OH. I have been doing very well in my WLS journey. But as of late have been slipping into bad food choices, low fluid intake and NO exercise. With that attitude I will not stay in the doing well status and can't/won't let that happen. So if others are in the same place or you are doing well let this be the day to start fresh with good food choices, fluid intake and a positive attitude, that we can or will continue down the right path for this journey.
"You may feel like giving up, but you have everything you need to succeed. Press forward without fear!"
Thanks for posting this. It's easy in the first few months to let the weight come off on it's own, but here I am at 10 wks out and it's slowing WAAAY down. I know it's becuase I'm not doing my full part and letting my fluid intake slack and taking a bite of this or that thing I know I shouldn't be eating. Add to lack the nearly total lack of exercise, and YAH, this is something I needed to hear.
Here's to getting Back on Track!
THANKS!

I know where you are coming from. The first year post-op flys by, weight falls off without much effort- you get to your goal weight and it feels like the food fight is finally OVER!! Yeah!!
But hunger returns, new foods get introduced back on to your menu and although you are much thinner and healthier............ the sailing isn't as easy anymore.
I will be 4 years out in May- newbies please remember to appreciate the honeymoon period because trust me- the journey gets bumpy after about 16 months. I have remained within my doctor's goal weight but I am 15 pounds heavier than my all time low. You have to make mindful decisions about food, excercise and water everyday. I thought the surgery was going to change that for me....but it take much more effort than I expected.
Good luck, every day is a good day to start over! Lynn

I've been having the same problem. I'm so close to my original goal, I want to get there and more importantly change my way of life permanently. This past week I've finally added back exercise, and began focusing more on protein. I too have had issues lately not getting in enough fluids. I'm just not naturally thirsty, so I've really got to make myself.
For those people who are a few years out, and find themselves being really good about consistently making right food choices, and keeping up regular exercise, I'd really like to know what you think makes a difference in doing that day after day. None of us wants to get back to the way we were, and while I know that, it's not enough for me to stay on track. Just like hating being 350 pounds was never enough to make me stick to a diet or exercise.
I need a switch flipped. Maybe it's time to make an appt w/ the counselor I saw pre WLS to get some help to figure out what I need to do, or how I need to change my thinking so that I can make this a life change, not just a way to get thin and then mess it up for myself.

Way to go Tim!
Thanks for posting this Tim...
@ 7 mons out I am doing really horribly in the liquid department.. I've been sucking down coffee trying to get through my "tired" days... and duh.. I'm probably tired because I'm dehydrated, not because I need caffeine!
I've been sticking to the diet pretty well but I dont' think I'm getting enough calories in to really help with the weightloss... I slacked off logging food on daily plate and last week I started that again too...
I also worked hard at being active this weekend, even if its not actively working out.. just moving and grooving (cleaning the house, walking the dog, running errands) instead of sitting around...
I am finding the slow down of weightloss now that the honeymoon period is over is disheartening... I was flying by the seat of my pants and now instead of double digit weeks, its barely double digit months.. I know I only have 30lbs to goal... and I know I can do it...
You can do it too! It's all about staying true to why we did this and keeping ourselves on track right?

Tim,
I'm jumping on the train.....The past year I gained 15 pounds, I want to get back on track, I have a good day and then a poor choice day, uhhh....The maintanence stage is so hard.....Plus I got in the bad habit of having a Caribou Turtle Mocha (not sugar free) a few times a week...My fluid intake went down to 32 oz. a day, I was drinking way too much coffee......My 2 year was on the 3rd of January, I still need to go see my Doctor for my visit, I'm quite embarrassed about my weight gain, but know it's better to go in and get some help......
*I have limited myself to 1-2 times of Caribou a week, down from 4.
*I have put 4 -16oz. water bottles in the front of the refig to remind me to drink....
*I'm trying to get on my treadmill once a day, still need to work in my home gym, my muscles are not as big anymore....:(
I do have something to work towards, My hubby and I are getting re-married, getting our vows renewed on our 25th wedding anniversary which will be in Dec. 2011, so I'm hoping that will give me some motivation.......
If you ever want to talk, or need anything, just holler....
Maybe some of us that are struggling could meet once a month and go over our meal plans, protein intake, exercise, etc?????
