2 wks out - update and questions
Well, I have lost 11 lbs since surgery and 32 overall. I am very happy about that. Still fighting fatigue that I think came from the huge blood loss. Hemoglobin was still only 10 last week. I honestly thought I'd have more energy back by now.
Am trying pureed foods and I get full so fast! Almost too fast. I am eatting so slowly and I feel full almost at once. I have to really fight the urge to drink water "to help wa**** down" or that stuck feeling. Is this common?
I used to be able to take a fist full of pills at a time and now swallowing one is a big deal, hate that! Maybe it gets better.
Mornings are tough, I wake sore and shaky and low energy, but it is slowly getting better. Don't mean to sound low, I'm really not. I'm thrilled I've done this. I believe that it will help make me the healthy Wife and Mom I want to be. I'm just still struggling with the low energy and shakey feeling.

I had the same issue as you after surgery and it takes a while to come back to normal. I did not end up needing blood but my hemoglobin was 8.2. At my 5 week check up, the nurse told me I was lucky to lose weight with a low hemoglobin because your body fights to keep what fat and fluids you have to build its self back up again. So your weight loss so far is great!! I was in the hospital an extra 3 nights because of all of this. It does get better trust me but take it slow and you know your body the best so listen to it, when you get tired - rest. Good luck to you in your journey! Donna
Thank you for sharing that, I don't feel like I'm nuts! My brother is 2 wks ahead of me and did his OPEN and I'm sore and tired! He's doing great! Making me look like a big wuss.
I'm sorry you had the low hemo too, it's a hard road coming back. I'm glad you are doing so well now. I'll hold onto that!

At 2 weeks post op I was still only getting about 2 ounces of pureed protein in... so don't push too much too hard, or too fast.. it always came back up if I did.. ha ha
As far as feeling foods stick... are you pureeing your proteins with liquid bases?
Make sure your pureed foods are wet... that will definitely help.. I used mayo, mustard, chicken/beef broth, cream soups.. fat free gravy... I used all those things to puree my chicken/meat with... the wetter the better for me.. if anything was too dry it came right back up.
and feel free to season your foods. nothing has to be that bland!
I can't even tell you how YUMMY pureed meatballs and gravy are post op.. after two weeks of liquids.. be adventurous with foods, but just remember you have a pouch that is healing.. its going to be swollen and you won't be able to get much in.. I was eating 2-4 oz of yogurt or cottage cheese.. more "liquid foods" .. but definitely barely 2 oz at two weeks for pureed solid proteins... they fill you up really quickly...
I am almost 7 mons post op and just within the last couple weeks I am finally able to tolerate white meat chicken.. and it still has to be moist and tender.. anything even slightly dry won't go down and is still an instant puker.
You'll figure out what foods you can and can't tolerate pretty quickly.. and everyone is different. I figured out really quickly that I'm a sugar dumper too... fun huh?
CONGRATS!

Your body is recovering from surgery, don't forget that! You will be tired, you SHOULD rest as much as you are able.
As for the food, you WILL fill up super fast for a while! Even if you eat really slow - the amount of food that fits in your swollen up, healing little pouch is pretty miniscule, so if just a few bites does the trick, don't pu**** Be sure anything you swallow is applesauce consistency, and be sure that you are focusing primarily on protein. That's what you need the most to heal.
As for Kevin? Don't compare yourself. I know, easier said than done, but you will BOTH be successful with WLS, at your own pace. Whatever works for him may not work for you, and visa-versa.
And as for your meds, you might inquire about the possibility of switching any of them to a liquid form, if that's an option. Or if crushing them is allowable - some can be, some can't. Ask your surgeon, your PCP, or even the pharmacist.
YAY YOU! YOU MADE IT TO THE OTHER SIDE!!!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
I have had experience with extreme blood loss during a c-section and it really took me a long time to get my energy back. It has A LOT to do with the blood loss. It took me a good 6 weeks to feel somewhat normal, I'm sorry to say. It does get better every week. Hang in there! I am only 5 days post op right now and I feel great in the morning but by mid afternoon I am done. Then I go back to resting, sipping and walking every hour. I also have that feeling of being very full very soon and the only thing I have really been eating is cream of wheat. I find myself worrying about not getting enough food but realize that realistically my view of "enough" food is extremely warped. It's very interesting. Hang in there and congrats on the 32 pounds!!!
