Good Morning

I am wandering around today and just thought I'd say hi to everyone.

I have my next set of appointments AND my sleep study on the 19th.  I'm finding it really easy to get the amount of protein they told me to get everyday and I'm working my way off the Mountain Dew too!

Does anyone have any experience with cottage cheese after RNY?  My "protein superfood" is 1/3 cup cottage cheese and 1/4 cup sunflower seeds mixed together.  20grams of mixed protein right there and it fills me up nicely for breakfast!

I've bought small dishes and I am trying to eat off of them at LEAST 2 meals a day in prep for the time when thats all I will be able to take in.  For me...making these changes slowly over the course of several months is easiest.  By the time I have my RNY I will be used to the eating requirements and should have an easier time sticking to it than if I just started after surgery.

Does anyone else have any "superfoods" to share with me?

Cottage cheese is great....any kind of cheese for that matter. I love beans....refried or other...good source of protein. Eggs are good too!

Good luck...hugs....connie d

Cheese is awesome but I have an odd relationship with it after my RNY.  I can do regular cheese, but cottage cheese I just can't do...doesn't sit well for some reason.  IDK if it's because I don't chew as much because it's already in small pieces or if it's because of the make up.  I keep trying it at different stages though because it it so packed with protien!  Never thought about mixing it with sunflower seeds though-great idea!

Greek yogurt is great for protein too.  I found some zero calorie, zero sugar flavoring stuff to mix in the plain greek yogurt & I have that 2-3x a day since I can't stomach cottage cheese.  There's 23 gm. of protein in a cup of greek yogurt...I don't eat that much in one sitting, but I eat that much spread out in 3 (sometimes more).    And sometimes I'll mix some no sugar added fruit into it as well so I get some of my fruit in each day too.

As for other high protein foods I eat turkey chili in a can, the kind with no beans from the store, just cuz' it has fewer calories & more protein than the kind with beans.  I add some shredded low calorie cheese to it and you have a real high protein meal right there for yourself.

And like was already suggested, fat free refried beans in a can with some low calorie shredded cheese and I add some mild taco sauce for flavoring (not salsa in the beginning because of the chunk, but later on you can have the chunk).

Can tuna with fat free mircle whip.  I would just eat it like that until I was able to eat it on crackers (at the 'normal foods stage').  I was addicted to tuna once I got to the pureed stage!    There's a lot of protein in tuna (12 gm. per serving), so if you like it have some on hand.

These are just a few of the foods that get me by in a day.  I also mix up 2x 'protein waters' a day, which are made up of a: 1/2 scoop of unflavored protein powder, any flavor of crystal lite, 32 oz. of water.  These get me 28 gm. of protein a day plus 64 oz. of water a day & taste super yummy!

Tuna is definately on my list as is grilled whitefish fillets, turkey, and salmon.  As for making my tuna with mayo...ICK!  no thanks.  I will add a teeny dab of it to a whole bowl but when it comes to tuna...Ive GOT to have brown mustard in it!

I have no idea what greek yogurt is and I cant seem to find it at any of the stores nearby.  Can anyone clue me in?  I like regular lowfat yogurt tho and cheese and beans too!  Im not having any problem getting my protein in so far but Im also pre-RNY too...that will likely change.

Am I the only one mixing stuff in my cottage cheese?  Am I really THAT weird?  I mean...I know Im strange.....

Greek yogurt can be found at Cub & Target.  I couldn't find it at Rainbow, but maybe I didn't look at the right place.  At Target it's at the end of the yogurt row, toward where they have the soy yogurt.  And at Cub it's in the organic area.

Not sure about mixing stuff with cottage cheese since I don't eat it.
