Lucky Man

I walked 2 miles before dawn this morning.  It was cold, but at least the thermometer was registering a positive number for a change.  It was warm enough for the snow to crunch rather than squeak underfoot, but it wasn’t really warm at all.   I hadn’t walked any distance outdoors since Saturday when we were in Chicago visiting our son and his wife.  It felt great to be outdoors again.

A snowstorm is blowing in here, so the wind was coming up and the creatures of the night were all hunkered down somewhere or lurking in the shelter of the woods beside the road.  I loved the sound of the wind blowing through the pine trees as I walked because it reminded me of the good times I have had in the north woods and up in the mountains of Montana and Wyoming.  Those positive memories got me to thinking about how lucky I am these days to be able to walk a good distance outdoors without being sweaty, out of breath, or suffering from aching feet or knees.  My nose ran, my cheeks burned, and my eyes watered as I turned into the North wind at the half way point on my walk.  I found myself smiling, pleased that I was able to be out in the elements refreshing my spirit.  Pretty soon my exposed teeth hurt from the bite of the cold wind, but that fact didn’t matter; I kept on smiling, relishing the start of what I hope will be a good day for a lucky man like me.

This doesn't seem like an OT post to me...you are relishing the success you've had with WLS and sharing that hope with the rest of us!  Thank you!
