I had my preop appt on Monday and had a sniffle (both kids have colds)  got one the next day and thought, it will be gone by next Monday.  Today I woke up at 4am and it's all in my chest.  I feel like someone is standing on my chest.  Arrrgggghhh!  I was trying to squeeze this into this year as my high deductible has been met,   I'm feeling stressed about this.  Everything it took to make it up to surgery, and one that was paid for, to now maybe have to put it off or shell out the $3,000 is making me crazy this morning.

I guess I need to call my reg Dr and see if antibiotics is a hope?

The best laid plans...... huh?   Anyone else have this happen?

I had that happen with a diff surgery I had many years ago and basically I spoke with the doc and they told me that the anastesiologist (sp?) will make the ultimate decision on whether they will put you under (they did for me because it was almost cleared up by then)

However, it wouldn't hurt to talk to your primary and see what they say.

Best of luck

Hi Samantha, I spoke to primary and he is calling in a Z-Pac for me.  So I'm hopeful it does something for me.  I appreciate your response.  Happy Holidays!

Tess,

I'll say a prayer that you're Z Pac kicks in quickly (I've been on them before and seems to knock the cold right out, at least for me)!

Merry Christmas and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Tess:

I'd add some zinc along with the Zpack in the event that you are dealing with a virus.  Zinc is shown to shorten the course of a viral illness and can lessen the severity of the symptoms.  (Works best if you start as soon as you notice you are feeling ill).  I'd get ahold of some Zicam or the like and take those too, it won't interact with the Z-pak.

For what its worth my daughter got sick the night before her open heart surgery.  She woke up with a major case of croup and she had this horrific juicy cough.  We had to push surgery back for 4 weeks, I remember feeling like I wa*****hed in the stomach.  But remember, you want to be totally heathly going into this surgery.  I know what a letdown it can be but you want to start out in the best shape as you can health-wise.

Feel better soon!

I'm adding my good wishes and swingin' a chicken to help knock out your cold.

Rest, rest, rest and drink plenty of liquids and hope the WLS gods are with you.
