4 days post op and a couple questions
Also, did anyone get hiccups a lot after surgery? I don't usually get the hiccups, but everytime I drink something I seem to get them a few times and then they go away.
I've been lightheaded too, which I'm sure is dehydration. I'm trying and trying to drink enough, but between the above issues and just feeling icky/full/tired, I'm sure I'm not getting the 8 cups a day.
Thanks in advance for your help!
The loud tummy noises are normal, even if they are a bit embarrassing or uncomfortable. Mine did that for a month or so...although I don't know if I just got used to it or they actually quieted down some.
I never got hiccups, but you might try drinking tepid (room temperature) water rather than cold water to see if that helps. Please do get all your liquids in every day. It is the single best thing you can do for yourself for the first few weeks after surgery. Dehydration and a substantial deficit between the calories your body is burning and what you are taking in are probably both contributing to your light-headedness.
I'm not drinking ice cold liquid, room temperature...with an occassional Crystal Lite popsicle. I'll have to ask the doc tomorrow about the hiccup thing.
Remember, you just had surgery! Your body is in shock and is goign through all kinds of changes right now. Anesthesia will make you have a headache. So will not eating as much. Try your best to get in as much liquids as possible. You can reach for the 64oz but you probably won't be able to get them all down.
Please spay and neuter your pets!
I get hiccups, too, after I eat a bite or two too much, or gulp water. They don't last long, but are my clue to put down the fork. Also perfectly normal.
Best of luck to you on this incredible jouney! And, welcome to the losers bench!

Congrats first of all...
I'm 6 mons post op officially today!
Do not worry about getting all 8 cups water in post-op.. if you are able to, great! But if not, its okay. Its very difficult to because your pouch is all puffy and healing and swollen... If you continue with the lightheaded thing make sure you contact your WLS office... you will slowly be able to increase how much you can drink.. take lots of tiny sips throughout the day.. gulps or too many tiny sips can hurt going down!
I get hiccups when I eat dense protein... in other words meat/chili/etc... Other people say their throat makes loud noises.. i've never had those just the hiccups.. but the rest of my digestive tract can be really noisy. I notice it when I eat oatmeal, and always with warm/hot beverages... and coffee/cocoa/tea...
From what I hear it can last forever.. my sister is 3 1/2 years post op and still has awfully loud rumbly tumblies!!!
