How will you handle Christmas cookies this year?  I hope I do okay with that stuff.  I am gonna bake maybe next week and hope I can stay out of em.  I don't wanna screw up, my scale started going down again and I don't want it going back up.  I need to keep that in mind before I put anything in my mouth........

You can do it, Marsha!  It's all in your perspective.  In the past, I made 'em 'cuz i wanted to EAT them!!!

This year, it's not about eating them - it's about sharing that fun holiday "tradition" with my kids - rolling the sugar cookies, cutting and baking, and especially decorating!  It worked out pretty cool so far this year - Trav and I cut and baked a batch Monday night, then last night Bailey and I sat at the table and decorated them all!    I did eat ONE, but that was enough!

(I posted a pic in FB if you want to see them  )

Hi Marsha!

I actually baked SEVEN Dozen Christmas treats yesterday for our neighborhood cookie exchange and even tho I'm a month out from surgery, and have been pretty adventurous with my eating (minus pasta and sugar), I DID NOT EAT A SINGLE COOKIE OR BAR!

What kept me from sneaking even a taste? It was 2 things... 1) thinking of what got me to the point of needing surgery in the first place (I could have easily put away a dozen cookies in a matter of minutes before!) 2) and looking at far I've coming in just a month.

Focus on your joy after seeing the scale move down again! You can resist! BE STRONG and instead snack on something you know is good for you.

Hope that helps... just the thoughts of a relative newbie.

Holiday wishes!
Shannon

Shannon - your response hit the right note for me.  I've always baked several family/friends favorites and love to do it.  I would "taste" quite a few during the baking time, but never went crazy.  I love the tradition of it, and often bake with a niece or daughter of a friend.   Don't know yet if I'll do it this year, but I like your logic and if I do, will use the same!
I can also add dreaded fear of "dumping" - - haven't done it yet!!!

OK, Mary (and others), I CONFESS... I'm trying to sound strong, but my biggest reason for not touching the treats is that I'm TERRIFIED of dumping! I have yet to puke or have it out the other end since surgery, and I want to keep it that way! Sugar was such a weakness before, and if I find out I don't dump, I'M IN TROUBLE.... and if I DO dump, I'm still in trouble.
